Hi...I was wondering if someone can answer this. I've just recently joined the zone and got a smoothie recipie from someone on the website and/or this forum... Anyway, It consists of: 2/3 scoop of protein powder (Whey - berry) (2P) 2 cups of strawberries &/or rasberries (2C) 1/2 cup of low-fat plain yogurt (1P - 1C) 9 almonds (3F) Now, this is suppose to be zone...now, I checked this website called FitDay (something else recommended on this website) and when I put in that smoothie...it was all CARBS..it definitly wasn't the 40-30-30.... I don't understand. I follow this diet very closely...and yesterday that website said my total protein intake was about 120 - 130g. Although my pie charts were 40-30-30 for the day and I did follow the block guide...I'm suppose to only be consuming between 85-97g daily. For breakfast, I ate a cup of egg whites and a grapefruit and oil (2P-2C-2F). Snack, I ate half a Zone perfect bar. Lunch was a salad (1C) with dressing - oil and vinegar (3F), with one whole-boiled egg (1P), 6 slices of turkey-deli (2P) and an apple(2C). For dinner, I ate half a can of Tuna (2.5P), 2 cups of broccoli and 1 cup of cauliflower (3C) and oil and almonds (3F)... Can anyone explain to me why this doesn't add up ...and why are the smoothies not Zoned. thank you very very very much!! R.

Hi... While I don't use yogurt personally, everything I'm seeing with your mixture sure looks zoned to me...EXCEPT...2 cups of raspberries is 4C...1/2 cup per block. Strawberries are 1 cup per block. Jim

Good Morning... I stand corrected. One cup is in fact 1 block according to the favorable food block guide. My apologies... Jim

So, am I all good then? Just seems like a lot of carbs...on the fitday website.... It's 28% P - 45 % Carbs and 25%fat??? Just weird.

I checked the Fitday too, and found that their #'s for raspberries are off. I looked on the bag of frozen raspberries I use and the numbers were within the Zone. Fitday had it about quintupled or something. I think it was 65 g per cup--which is W"A"Y off. I'll buy the USDA tested info on the bag, and Dr. Sears' recommendations, over a website. Fitday has been helpful, but I don't think it's flawless. BTW, both strawberries (chopped fine) and raspberries are 1 cup/1 block. Blueberries are 1/2 cup per block. :) Ronica

thanks. THat's comforting to know. I just want to say that I've been in the "zone" for one week and a half and I feel really great!! I've lost weight and my energy is sky-high. As an aside, I would like to buy another Zone book....to help with more recipies. SHould I buy "one week in the zone"? I think there was another one. Any suggestions?

Beney: Sorry...I ate half a small container of egg substitute (just the egg white containers) I believe they are one cup...therefore that would be half a cup.

Speaking of egg substitute, I am having a hard time finding it in australia. I found one that was full of potato starch and NO protein. Would someone be so kind as to list the Ingredients in their egg substitute so that I can try to find something similar? Many thanks Top

I personally don't use the egg substitutes. In our area, they are a bit expensive. I just buy a lot of eggs and through away the yolks. I hate wasting food, but I think that my health is worth it.

My dogs love them and it gives them great coats :-) Of course that's no reason to get a dog, but maybe you could freeze them up and save them for a friend's pet. Robbin

angelrob, I was wondering if I could give the egg yolks to my dogs but then I thought that if there is too much "bad" fat in them for humans why wouldnt it be bad for my dogs too?? I do give them the occasional whole egg but only as a treat. I might start another tread about dogs to look for answers cheers top

Top, I don't know how much is too much. I don't feed mine more than one per day, and not every day, just add them as extra calories when one is getting thin, and as you said, for a treat. I wasn't thinking when I suggested it of someone eating a 6 egg-white omlette every day and giving all the yolks to their one dog. Thanks for the caution! More often, I just toss in the whole egg, shell and all and they are in doggie heaven  Robbin

That's right...whoever said health being worth the cost of throwing out egg yolks...and now that I think about it, even buying the more expensive omega-3 eggs and throwing out the yolks, it is probably still cheaper than the egg substitutes as they are quite expensive here, too. Janice
