10 years ago at the tender age of 23, I was introduced to the zone diet book and followed it faithfully. The Zone combined with physical excercise brought me out from depression and changed me from slightly overweight and flabby to thin, fit and mentally balanced. I became an athlete. Already a working single mom, I was accepted into a police academy and served as a police officer for many years. I didn't stay with the Zone. Over 3 years ago, I was forced to retire from a heriditary condition related to arthritis. Just one month ago, I had a total hip replacement on the right side. They anticipate the left being replaced in about 2 years. I'm going back to the Zone. I have weight to lose (and keep off so I don't destroy the artificial joint - my doctor is already panicked about my age). I feel pretty much recovered. I have gained about 12 lbs just since I have been home from the hospital (I managed to keep my weight down before by the very un-zone diet of coffee, more coffee, smoking and too busy to eat). The extra weight doesn't feel good. I also need the nutrition and energy to repair the damage from the surgery and get me through the physical therapy, light cardio workouts and the swimming I've started this week. Most important to me, I have just one chance this year to have another child before that second surgery. I shoulda woulda coulda - but I thought I had more time before the 1st surgery was going to happen. I intend to Zone it all the way through recovery and then through pregnancy. I don't know anything healthier than this. Look forward to reading the posts! Jenna |
