Hi! I've just started the Zone on Monday and so far so good. However, I think I need to do some adjusting. For example, after my lunch (six slices of turkey, one whole egg, salad, and a piece of fruit...and oil and vinegar dressing - 3-3-3), I was hungry two hours later!?!?! So, I ate half a Zone Perfect Bar....I was still hungry during the afternoon. Now, I'm thinking I need to do some adjusting because the same thing happened after my supper (Chicken, broccoli and califlower - oil and half a grapefruit)....I ate my snack pretty early..... I don't know what I need to do.... Plus, should I be eating my lunch and only 4 hours later my snack? or only 2 - 2.5 hours later? I'm pretty active although I didn't do any activity yesterday, so why was I so hungry? thanks.

Are you truly eating enough vegetables? Have you read the following thread? http://forums.drsears.com/viewtopic...mp;start=0 If you post your diary precisely, I'm sure Sue will observe things about it that you did not know. Best wishes, Charlie

thanks. I think I eat enough vegetables... If I have 3 ounces of proteine, I eat 1.25 cups of broccoli and 2 cups of cawliflower plus 1/2 grapefruit for dessert! Isn't that 3 blocks of Carbs? For lunch, I have a salad (1C), one boiled egg (1P), 6 slices of turkey (2P), one apple or two clementine oranges (2C)...and of course, my fat! any suggestions?

For salad, it depends on what's on it. Enough lettuce for 1 C is like 10 cups!!! You need to make sure you have enough veggies on it to make up. There is a link somewhere to a good salad reference--I think it's in the tools or something. (Sorry I am no help!) I use chickpeas on my salad to boost the C. :) Ronica

The three cups of broccoli/cauilflower is 1 block, the grapfruit is another. Make sure you are using the most recent block guides (ie from Week-in-the Zone, this website, Omega-Rx, Anti-Aging Zone). Are you hungry and focused? Then that third carb block is needed. If hungry and sleepy and since you meal is already a carb block short, be sure you are getting enough fat (9g for a 3 block meal). Fat slows the entry of carbohydrate, blunting the insulin response, and controlling your blood-sugar for longer periods. And make sure you are adding enough fat. Give us a better idea of the type of hunger you are experiencing and we can assist you further.

I think I haven't been eating enough Carbs...seems like I'm always eating!! I think it's mostly bordom or just habit to snack in the afternoon around 2h30! If I eat my salad at noon....is 3pm too early to have a snack?

I eat my lunch at 12 also, and am totally ready for my snack at 3 pm (although I agree, there is a psychological component to that, it's not like I'm starving!). Then I eat dinner at about 6 pm. If your snack will hold you until dinner, I say eat it when you feel like it.

I just want to say that not all information is consistant in the Zone books and website. First, in Mastering the Zone, it says that 11/4 cup broccoli is 1C....and two cups of cauliflower is 1C. On the website, it says that three cups of broccoli is 1C!?!?!?! I was following the book...which is why I wasn't eating enough carbs. As for my 3pm snack, thanks...I will have it, guilt free ! haha. I eat dinner around 5pm...before I go Kickboxing. thanks

Mastering the Zone only subtracted soluble fiber. The newest block guides subtract all dietary fiber leaving only the insulin-stimulating carbs in determining carb blocks.
