I've been using the block guide to eat and I'm finding I'm eating a LOT of food. My stomach isn't use to eating so much. Is there anyway I can reduce my portions and still stay 'in the zone?'

On the other hand.. how would one describe poor clarit of mind? and what would be good clarity of mind?

That’s the paradox of the Zone. Many can’t eat all the food yet they feel better and lose weight. That’s what happens when you focus on the low-glycemic vegetables (non-starchy), and low sugar fruits (berries, citrus). How can you cut down on the volume of food and still be in the Zone? Add in the dense but favorable carbs such as chickpeas, black beans, lentils etc. You can still have small amounts of the unfavorable carbs, about 1 block or 25% of your meal
Mental focus? Are you alert, energetic or tired, groggy, or sleepy? See if this helps: http://drsears.com/hormonalchart.page

    Hi
I have started to diet yesterday, felt really positive after having un diagnosed blood sugar problems for 6yrs, have controlled it some what but eating natural foods making sure I ate complex carb with a fish/animal protien and veg up to 4x day, after 6yrs of this I have started to feel quiet groggy in the mornings and am sick of potatoes and I am still suffering with the dips,
anyway felt great when yesterday I didnt eat a single potatoe, bread or pasta, I woke this morning bright and alert and my vision had been clear today, BUT..today's meals havent prevented my dips in blood sugar, Breakfast was fine, but it went down hill from there, even though I ate a tone of food, I feel like I will never be back to normal again, no matter how hard I try, and eating huge portions just to feel grounded started to make me feel overwhelmed, am I expecting results too quick, I cant efford to buy the fish oil at the moment, and I am just taking health shop brand, would the right oil make all the difference,
Can any one shed some light, thank you
    Kindest regards

    Hi Simonne,

I too used to suffer from daily hypoglycemic symptoms. They'er a thing of the past now.

It will usually take more than one Zone meal to lower insulin levels significantly enough to feel all the benefits. I've read in Zone material that studies show insulin lowered into the Zone range within 4 days of consecutively eating Zone meals and snack.

Yes, Zone Labs fish oil will help you lower inflammation much better than health food store grade fish oil. Your diet will have the greatest effect on controlling your insuin levels.

    Thanks Sue

Do you still eat a huge amount of food for your meals?
I feel full and want to stop, it feels like too much food for my body?
Can I eat little and often, if I judge how a smaller portion will make me feel?
Do you ever have a potatoe with your meal?
Do you excercise? if so how often?

Also do you know how many ounces 1 block of muscles would be?

Thank you so much for your help

As far as my clarity.. I'm always tired, but then I only get 5 hours asleep a night (if i'm lucky) due to a full time job and fulltime student.

However, I do find that I tend to get headaches after I eat (rather I did), and every now and then still do. Could that be a 'symptom' of too much insulin?

    You're welcome Simonne.

I eat in the Zone all the time, with favorable veggies and fruit for most of my carbs (my usual exceptions are steel cut oats, plain yogurt and Zone Labs bars). The volume of my 3 block meals depends upon the foods I choose, carbs especially. My meals vary in size/volume from a small volume very thick 3 block smoothie, to a 3 block plate full of food with all C from veggies.

No, I rarely eat potatoes. Can't even remember when the last time was.

Yes, I exercise most every day.

Mussels...1 cup of meat only, raw (blue mussels) is a little less than 3 blocks. I guess that would be a little over a 1/3 cup raw mussel meat to a block (in other words ...a lot of mussels!)

    Hi Susan

Things are going well now, I'm getting into the diet and feel wonderful!
    My latest Q is
I have been having alot of diary(as snacks) I'm not sure if this is seen as a C or P as the list says it is mixed
Also do you have much diary as I havent for a long time and am wondering if it will cause weight gain, would you have any idea?

    Thanks susan

Best way to judge whether dairy works well for you is how you feel later (if the snacks keep you in the Zone). Make sure to choose low fat or fat free dairy to minimize the amount fo saturated fat.

You asked about me. I don't eat much dairy, due to a concern about way I absorb calcium, and not related to the concern you expressed about weight.
