Dear Zoners:
I have a friend that is following a diet that appears to be very close to the Zone, with the exception that he might drink some 2 gallons of water a day..that seems pretty much..Can it cause some kidney troubles? any other trouble?
On the other hand, to get my protein amount, I take sometimes Protein Powder used in Gyms. My wife is pregant now and the PP box says that pregnant women shall take advise of their doctor before consuming this. Why? even if she takes the correct amount can it be dangerous?
Regards,
Pancho |

Have you seen the news, lately? People have been dying from drinking too much water. Specifically, long-distance marathon runners. If you take in more water than your body releases, you could die from an overdose of water. It thins your blood too much.
One report mentioned the absolute maximum per hour of water brfore you reach this condition, and I can't recall what it is.
If you stick with the 8 glasses per day - more or less, then you should be alright. And recent investigation reveals that the original eight glasses of water per day included liquid obtained from foods. So that eating a lot of friuts and vegetables gives one some of the liquid that could be counted as part of the old addage of 8 per day. |

I disagree with that. It depends upon the size, sex, and activity level of the person. And if they are consuming the water all in one sitting or throughout a 16 hour period, as I do. It's true that too much of anything can kill you, but 2 gallons shouldn't be a problem if this is an active, larger man. I drink about a gallon a day, and I am a 5'2" female who works out twice a day.
Too much water will raise your blood pressure, as the volume of your blood is raised. |
