i remmeber in dr sears books they say you can know if you are in the zone or not. if you are hungry and loopy (carb overload) or hungry and focused(protien overload). but what if you are hungry and fatiged? i have heard fat but i am having all my needed fat for sure. why could i be exhausted? i have a can of tuna or sardines with a huge salad and either olive oil or veginaise (like mayo) and then a peice of fruit after. someone said make sure there is 3 oz. of protien, but the cans say 21/22 grams of protien. and i was afraid to go over one the carbs with the salad but then i guess it wasn't enough so i added the fruit. I want to be in the zone soooo bad but i don't feel like I am because of my hunger and fatigue. please if anyone has any insite that would be great! |

first, tuna is a "sleepy" food because its naturally high in triptataine
. . . however, my guess its the fruit's fault.
You didn't mention what kind of fruit you had and how much. Some fruits are very high on the glycemic index and thus a block's worth of something like a banna is very, very small. Most fruits are more than one block by virtue of their size.
Additionally, you mentioned a vegan type of mayo -- check the carb count on it. Its possible that one tablespoon could be more than one block, thus its something else to consider.
lastly, don't forget to drink your water. I find that if I don't quite get my ratios rights and that a glass of water helps with the brain fuzz. |

Hi,
Hungry and fatigued would be the "loopy" feeling. Be sure the tuna had at least 1.5 g fat for every 7 g protein. If not you didn't get enought fat. Some brands/types of tuna are lower in fat content than others, so it's best to read the label. One can also experience fatigue when first in the Zone as the body releases stored AA and also adjusts to thenew eating plan.
You are confusing the weight of the tuna with the number of grams of protein in the tuna. 3 oz (about 80-85g of tuna) will usually contain about 21 grams of protein.
As grace_maxwell posted a piece of fruit could mean many things as far as blocks go, depending upon the type of fruit you ate.
I suggest you go to the Food Block Guide in Zone Resources (on this site, see menu in left margin of home page). To compose your meals choose 3 blocks of protein, 3 blocks of carb, and 3 blocks of fat from the list. This will assure you have a balanced meal made up of favorable carbs. Then if you still have hunger at 4 hrs after the meals, you can adjust accordingly.
It will take about 4 days of all Zone balanced meals and snacks to really begin to feel the benefits of insulin control in the Zone.
And, as already advised, drink lots of water.

thank you for the info. i thought i would let you know just in case though. I make sure i have two large glasses of water before each meal and snack. The fruit i am having is usually 1 cup of raspberries or 1 plum. each is one block, so i pick one of those. and the vegginaise (mayo) only has 1 carb per tbsp. i really make sure about everything. the cans of tuna i eat have 22 grams of protien, and the sardines have 21 or 22g. some other cans of tuna have way too many grams of protien. i am trying soooo hard to make sure i am doing everything correct to lose weight. i forget what else you wrote to me so i will post more if i messed anything. |
