Is this recommended on the zone or is it "out" like acorn butternut etc? Found no mention of it in the books.. Also, what would constitute a block (cooked squash?) THANKS!

It is considered a favorable carb. 1 cup is 1 block. I suggest cutting in half, scoop out seeds, place in a pan with the cut side up and a little bit of water (not much) and baking for about 45 min. to an hour at 375 degrees. Then "fork it" and serve with pasta sauce and grilled chicken, shrimp, or what have you. I tried steaming on the stove once, which was quick and did work, but the squash was very wet. We enjoy spaghetti squash very much--plus the squash (uncooked) keeps for a long time, so you don't have to use it up right away. :D Ronica
