Could someone tell me why in the zone raw vegetables are measured by volume?Of couse,it's more practical than by weight but a lot more imprecise. It works well with grains and beans where the grain size is more or less constant, certainly not with chopped raw vegetables. Another question: what is the appropriate dayly dose of EPA/DHA and in general of fish oil to give to 1-2 years old toddlers? Thanks. Carlo Ferrando

I think it is because in the states cookbooks use the cups/spoons measurements. Not that many households measure their flour by grams, rather than cups. I agree that it is better to go by grams, that way you know the precise measurement and don't have to guess is this 1.5 cups, 2 1/4 cups, 3 cups? If you are a perfectionist, grams are the way to go!

Ocean girl, nice to know someone who appreciates the problem. The mismatch between the two methods can be as high as 100%. Carlo

Carlo Ferrando[/quote:e499c8209f] in medical terms doseages are usually proprtionate to weight. The standard dose for an adult is 1600epa 800dha if we assume an average adult is say 150lbs and the 2 year old is say 25 lbs you would require 266 epa and 133 dha. You should vary this based on weight. If you find they require less than the 400 and 200 standard you may find a brand called See Yourself Well that is specifically designed for childern containing 200 Epa and 100 Dha per cap White Light

These pages are a great reference for those wishing to weigh fruits and veggies. The nutrition "labels" indicate how many grams are in a serving and the macro-nutrient values. http://www.dole5aday.com/ReferenceC...V_Home.jsp http://www.dole5aday.com/ReferenceC...F_Main.jsp Hope it helps... i agree it is confusing about measuring especially vegetables. how can two tomatoes be one block and 1.5 cups tomatoes be one block. the confusion for me is a result of trying to substitute one block of tomatoes in a recipe. to be more analytical i decided to chop the 2 tomatoes. after chopping 1 tomato i had 1.5 cups or 1 block. i had one whole tomato left over. if i had added 2 tomatoes i would have added two blocks and thus overeaten on my total carb. intake. can anyone help me?
