I was just overlooking the supplement facts for Dr. Sears' HEPATIC SUPPORT forumla, and was surprised to see that two of its main ingredients are Chlorella (50mg) and Spirulina (700mg!). These aglae products are currently being marketed extremely aggressively as "superfoods" and "miracle supplements" and I am surprised by Sears' participation in this. What science to exists the support the purported health benefits of chlorella and spirulina, and what is the basis for Dr. Sears' belief that they help bind heavy metals?

The amounts in this formula are much less than a standard maintenance of 3-4 grams per day suggested by suppliers. The presence of these nutrients does not necessarily support a belief by Dr. Sears that they help bind heavy metals. To research the science of chlorella and spirulina we suggest searches in Google and at PubMed.com.
