Hi, I was wondering if there are any Zoners here who are at or around the weight they want to be, but too high in body fat %? I've been trying to Zone now for a month...still trying to figure it all out but am really enjoying it. I love that I am eating tons more fresh veggies and fruits and I feel good,...not seeing much progress in the mirror or in my clothing is sort of a bummer, but certainly feeling great and knowing I'm living such a healthy lifestyle keeps me wanting to continue Zoning (though I'd sure love to lose some of my blub  ). I'd sure love to hear from you and hear about your progress, tips or anything else! Tia

[/quote:96ec8e77ff] Tia, Body fat% is all you should really be concerned with for health. The only way you can reduce your body fat% and keep your current weight is to add a pound of muscle for each pound of fat you lose. This is possible, but the two are not really connected. You can lose or gain either one independent of each other. A strength training routine like SCT would be the easiest way to add muscle. There are posts about that on this site.

Yes, body fat % is indeed what I am concerned about...and I'd like to get mine down safely and efficiently. I'm currently doing a full-body weight training DVD (about 45 minutes) M, W, and F, and then I kickbox for 40 minutes T, Th, and S. I've been required 11 blocks. I think I read that if you are trying to build muscle that you should up a block, so that I would go to 12 blocks. Is that correct and would you recommend that? Thank you for the SCT information. I'll check that out.

The amount of activity you described would fall somewhere within the active and very active levels. Do you know your LBM? Without it we wouldn't be able to recommend an appropriate amount of blocks for you. You may require more than 12, depending upon your LBM. I suggest you put your stats into the Body Fat Calculator on drsears.com and see what you come up with for block recommendations using both "Active" and "Very Active". This will give you the range of your protein requirement. Once you have this info you can experiment to see what works best for you.[/color:ff643645e9]

Hello, Sue, I've just double-checked my LBM. (actually, for the tenth or so time :D ) According to my Tanita, I have a bodyfat % of 26.4% which makes my LBM 80.64 pounds. According to the scale on drsears.com, I have a bodyfat % of approximately 21.9%, with an LBM of 93.8. The difference in "active" to "very active" is 1 block (it recommends 11 blocks or 12 blocks). With my particular workout plan (my work keeps me sitting and not moving much), would you recommend that I keep sticking with the 11 blocks and see how I progress over the next month or so? I appreciate your advice. Thank you!

For best BMI measurements, I suggest you rely on Dr. Sears' formula contained in any of his books. The online calculator is next best choice (keep in mind it rounds up/down). [/color:fccb4e5823]
