I posted this in weight loss, but prehaps this is a better place. . Here's my question.... These days I wake up at 6am. I need to leave for work by 7:45am I need 15 minutes to get ready to go to work. SO I have 1 1/2 hours first thing in the morning. This is the only time I have to work out, not to mention I have to eat breakfast within the first hour. So by question, Do I wake up and start my work out first thing, then have breakfast, prep up and go to work..... or do I get up, have breakfast, then workout. My work-out will be fairly light: Three sets of push-ups, three sets of squats, 30 minutes cardio (low-moderate intensity) and some work on the swiss ball (for my back) Twice a week I'll do a little weight work, curls mostly. Thats it. I don't have any time to work out in the evening...I work long days. I can't get up earlier without shortchanging myself on sleep. The above are my only options....which is best? Thanks

[color=darkred:d455a13ade]Hi, Exercising upon waking without eating first without eating would not be a Zoe friendly (insulin friendly) thing to do. Exercising on a full stomach right after a meal would also not be the greatest for a number of reasons. Many zoners with the same concerns you have solve this by having a snack at wakeup, then exercise, then have breakfast. The snack can be one block "borrowed" from breakfast, or one block from somewhere else in your day. Be sure to keep your daily protein intake to that which is appropriate for you LBM and activity level, and then compliment it with the appropriate amount of carb and fat to meet your specific needs.[/color:d455a13ade]

Hi. I agree with Sue that working out prior is not the Zone friendliest thing to do, but with your options, that's the way I would go. I'm not even taking into account that prior to eating coming from a fasting state is SUPPOSED to burn fat quicker (I've read the arguments and the jury is still out on that), but your choices of exercises are good, and they aren't done heavily enough to cause a lot of catabolism. It's going to stimulate your metabolism. I would suggest a bit of a change though. I'm sure you can find a broomstick or a pvc pipe or a wooden dowel to put on two chairs. Lie beneath it , grab the bar/dowel and pull your self up. These are modified pullups, easier, yet beneficial. Do 10 pullups, 10 pushups, 25 squats, 15=20 of an ab exercise of your choice, one right after the other. Do 34 round of this, then finish with about 10 mins of some cardio of your choice to cool down. The whole workout won't take over 20 mins, Shower, eat beakfast, and go to work. What I do is to have breakfast all prepped up the night before, so all I have to do is slap it in a microwave, unless I'm doing oatmeal, and that only takes 10 mins stove top. Best to you Tim
