I always thought that your hips were measured at the widest (scariest!) part of your body. I'm interested to hear where others measure though.

The following quote is from the Body Fat Calculator instructions on this site: [b:65a6bea574]" While keeping the tape level, measure your hips at their widest point, and your waist at the umbilicus (i.e., belly button)."[/color:65a6bea574][/b:65a6bea574] Sue

Hello Ladies, Yes, it is very sad, I agree. I always considered my hips to be where my hip bones stick out :? But I have been measuring according to the instructions...at the widest part...which is at the bottom of my rear end, almost my thighs (really!) or what I lovingly call my saddlebags  Getting smaller, but still there :x I have the typical pear-shaped body, not apple-shaped. Do you think that makes a difference? ~Michelle

OH MY!! Ronica :o Your post made me laugh so hard I started to cry!! (I even snorted once or twice :P )[/size:a164769176] I didn't mean stick OUT like an anorexic run-way model. I guess I should have said, "Where I can "feel" my hip bones." I have always been cursed with this pear-shape. My waist has almost always been defined, (except during pregnancy) with my weight gain always going to my rear end!! Bertha Butt was my nickname in high school (oh what fond memories I have  ) Now that I have lost so much weight, when I lay in bed on my stomach, it is my hip bones that I am laying on and not my fat belly. That is a great feeling. Thanks for the best laugh!! ~Michelle p.s. when are we going to get together??

Thanks, Michelle! Yeah, we got to get together, and soon! I am off on Saturday this weekend--are you around? I also posted on another category about the waist issue--my waist is staying the same, although I am losing inches on upper arms, thighs, butt, etc. I am not so sure why. I am fairly proportional, pear shaped but not excessive. My mom used to call me thunder thighs, which was mean and awful and I hated, but I find I tend to go horizontal rather that out--we Skarphols are known for the Skarphol Flat Ass. Jeff loves that now that the sides of my ass are reduced, it no longer looks flat! Jennifer Lopez, I am not! I do wish my waist would trim a bit, but I guess I really shouldn't complain, as it's not really where I gain weight anyway. (My Grama used to call me "little 'round the middle", which I loved!!!) I am happy that I can now wear sleeveless things with no embarrassment, and find that my thighs barely go out from my hips, so that's great! Well, I gotta run, was supposed to meet Jeff about 30 minutes ago (woops). Talk to you more soon! Curvelina

Hi Ronica! I have an organizing job to finish this weekend, sorry, but maybe Donna and you could get together..??? We are getting our families together tomorrow night so that our girls can trick-or-treat together (they are both the same age--1 day apart !!) In fact, she is going to call me later this evening, I'll mention it to her. I emailed you, too. Did you get it? I don't think that I have anything planned, yet, for any other weekend this month... I found that if I ate cottage cheese too many times a day (usually 3 or more) it would make me bloated. Especially in the evening. I now make sure that I only eat it once a day and I don't have the bloating. Maybe you have something that is the same? Or is that just where you carry your weight? My cousin was talking about the tv show "Extreme Makeover" the other weekend and said, "Who would put themselves through that?" I said, "Hello?? ME!!" I have saggy everything. If not from yo-yo dieting, then pregnancy. A little lypo here and there to reshape some things would be nice, too  I guess we would all change something about ourselves if it only took the wave of a wand. Let's really get together soon! Donna and I have a great time together! -Michelle

Hi Michelle! I didn't get an email, although unless clearly marked I may have deleted (there is so much spam now! I do not want a larger penis! Why don't they understand that???) When you write, please put something identifying in the topic, and I'll get you in my address book so that it all comes to my inbox, not my junk mail box. I haven't really had trouble with what felt like bloating due to cottage cheese, but I usually have it at lunch only anyway. I don't think I do carry weight in my waist--even in high school it was only about 1 inch less than now (and I think I was sucking in!) I gain everywhere else! I have also noticed that although I have lost 15 lbs., my chest has stayed the same, which I thought would go right away (I am one size bigger than college--and that was 7 years ago.) I guess that's a good thing? ;) Anyway, I look forward to meeting both of you soon! We've got to get together--sorry, I have no kids to add to the mix, just a 57 lb. very furry "kid" named Lucy! Maybe a dog park excursion?? Thanks for all of the encouragement. I am kind of feeling lost right now, so I need all I can get. I told Jeff last night--these forums are like our own support group that meets every day. This has really helped me keep on track. See you soon! :D Ronica

Thanks, Michelle! Watched for it and got it this time. Thankfully, you weren't trying to sell me penis enlargers or a mortgage. Phew! Just getting ready to head down for Indian at Madison Masala, and enjoy the costumes on State Street. Jeff and I are going as Bacon and Eggs. I'm eggs. :) Let's set something up! Ronica and Michelle... I haven't been checking the forum much lately...sorry. Michelle did tell me you had posted re: getting together, Ronica...but I didn't have much time to read it or contact you before this weekend. I would like to get together sometime too. I think I could probably meet just about any Sunday and some Saturdays except for the weekend of the 14th, 15th, 16th. I think I work Sat. the 22nd so that day is out for me unless it's later in the evening. Let me know! It would be great it could work out for all of us to meet. Donna. :D
