Hi, I am at Big Lake, Alaska. I've been on the zone now for about 6 or 7 weeks and have lost 13 pounds so far. I feel great! I don't have any cravings anymore and I don't get hungry between meals. I took a "test" by Dr. Oz and he said I should try the zone diet. Best way to eat that I have found so far. Last year I lost 25 pounds on SouthBeach diet, and then gained back 20 of it! It just wasn't structured enough and I new I was eating too much protein. This is how I eat to live instead of live to eat. What a difference. Anyone need a pal up here?

Hi Susan -- I'm from Florida, so about as far away in the US as you can get (except for Puerto Rico) ... but wanted to say "welcome" and thanks for posting. It's so motivating to read posts like yours -- even if we've been doing the Zone for a while now. Maybe even more so, because we can get complacent with how much better and healthier we are now !

Congrats Susan!  13 pounds is excellent.   You've made a great choice with the Zone.  I've been following the Zone diet and lifestyle for 15 years and I can't imagine things any other  way now.  It works and it's been a freeing experience for me. The Zone taught me how to eat in any situation and still be able to feel great and stay lean and strong.   I love it.

    Oh, BTW, I'm in CT.

    Hi Susan,

I think you mean Pamela, but I'm still here.

I've been traveling a lot for the past few weeks, and will be home in a couple weeks (well, maybe, because my second grandson could be born at any time in the next 6 weeks, and when he is I'll be there to help out).  I'm online regardless.

It sounds like the Zone is still going well for you.  Are you finding it's becoming second nature to put together a meal now?  The Zone has always felt very freeing for me.  I like that Dr. Sears gives detailed explanations about how it works, how to fine tune and why, etc.  That makes all the difference; it gives you the tools to make it your own eating plan.

Please keep in touch, and let us know how you're doing.

I'm still doing the Zone. I love it . Yes, making meals are pretty easy now. My daughter had been on South Beach diet and just switched to the Zone a couple days ago. So far, I have lost 20 pounds since the middle of August. My family has type 2 diabetes and I have 2 reasons for doing the Zone, weight loss and diabetes prevention. Best I have felt in a long time. It is great not to have any cravings anymore! talk at ya later!

    Susan,

Congrats on your results so far, and congrats on "converting" your daughter, too!  SB Diet is similar in principle (regarding glycemic control) but IMO lacks structure.

Just wanted to share that I also chose the Zone for those same reasons, weight loss and prevention of diabetes.  When I started the Zone years ago, no one else in my family has had diabetes, but my mom has developed type 2 DM recently (she is in her 70's).  I have tried to convert her, but she just won't give up her "staples", so her diet is high in starchy carbs.

As for me, I had gestational diabetes with all of my pregnancies, and so I  am at a higher risk of developing type 2 DM myself.  The Zone has helped me to keep my blood sugars under control, as  my fasting sugars DO creep up above normal when I am not adhering to strict zone guidelines.

BTW, I am not from Alaska, I live in Wisconsin.

so far I have lost about 27 pounds, kind of hit a wall. The last couple of days I suddenly got cravings for my old foods so I ate them. Didn't taste as good as I thought they would and they made me feel so uncomfortable. Seem to be back on track now. (think I learned a lesson)

Good job, Susan! It is quite the learning experience--I think I remember the first time that I strayed from the Zone, someone had brought in glazed donuts to work. I wanted one in the worst way, and so I caved in and ate one. To my surprise, it just didn't taste as good as I had remembered, and almost too sweet!
