    Hi Paul

This is Margaret from Canberra ACT. Not near Wyong but was happy to see a fellow Australian on the forum! Did you know there is an Australian Zone website - www.getzoned.com.au - you can buy Zone products and the delivery is free in Australia.

    Hi Paul and Margaret

I'm from Perth Western Australia and I've just started the diet. A bit confused with the timing for meals and snacks. It says have a snack before bed at 11pm but i'm well in bed by then.

    Hi Jocelyn

Welcome to the forum. The night time snack you have is 1 hour before you go to bed. Maybe the 11pm was just an example. Where did you see this?

    Hi Margaret!

I have a similar qn for you. :-) Where'd you see that the bedtime snack is 1 hour prior to bed? That's new to me. I don't think it's a requirement that it has to be an hour before beceause I've seen and heard Dr Sears explain it as bedtime or else within half an hour to 45 min of going to bed.

    I was just wondering...

I am playing devils advocate here, but what is the difference if you eat your snack 1 hour before bed, vs. 1/2 to 3/4 hour before bed?

If we do the math, obviously there is a 15-30 minute difference.

But, really, regardless of whether we eat 1 hour or 30 min before bed, are our bodies really going to calculate that extra 1/2 hour and start screaming because we are OOZ? I don't think so! We are going to be fasting while we sleep, anyway.

I can certainly understand not stretching your bedtime snack beyond an hour or so before bed, because then the effectiveness of that snack may start to wear off. But, a snack should keep us in the the Zone for at least 1 1/2 hours, anyway.

I guess I don't really worry too much about the clock, except that I know how long a snack will carry me, and by the time the effectiveness wears off, I am sound asleep and my body's metabolic rate has adjusted to sleep mode. So, as long as we don't go to bed hungry or OOZ, I really don't see the importance of timing that last snack to the nth minute of the day.

I also remember a reply to a qn put to Dr SeaRS about large meals 2 hours prior to bedtime. The reply was that if you eat a full meal a couple hours before bed the bedtime snack wouldn't be necessary (but make sure to eat the 1 block bedtime snack earlier in the day to get your entire protein requirement). There's some leeway as long as you go to bed in the Zone having recently eaten.
