Hello my name is Aundrea and i am new to the zone. I have been reading through the forums and find myself a bit confused. My block prescription is 11 blocks so 3:3:1:3:1. I attempted this Zone diet about a month ago but gave up by the second day. I am so used to eating deep fried foods, chinese , rice, bread and potato chips. I hate the taste of water and i got a horrible headache the first day. I think part of my failure was because of the lack of information and research. I need breakfast ideas. I hate egg whites so thats something i definitely wont be eating. Can someone please give me tips on how to stay on the zone. What can i drink besides water? Any breakfast ideas? I really need to lose about 50 lbs. Please help me.

You'll find lots of breakfast ideas here (lunch and dinner, too!): http://www.zonediet.com/zone-classic-recipes

My tips...read all you can. Take it one meal at a time. Don't get too caught up in calculations. I prefer Zone At-a-Glance; it's the way I lost 100 pounds: http://www.zonediet.com/tools/zone-classic

Hi Sue, Wow 100lbs!! Way to go! I am aiming for 50 lbs and hope to be successful this time I came up with a breakfast idea i just want to make sure it is right. 1 Scoop of whey protein (20g) of protein and (9g) carbs. 1/3 a banana (9g) and 1 cup strawberries (9.48g) and 9 almonds (4.5g) of fat. Does this sound about right?? This would be my 3 block breakfast.

Oh and do you subtract the fiber from fruits and Vegetables? What about whole grain oatmeal and bread? Thank you

Thanks, Aundrea. You'll need to double the amount of almonds because the protein powder is fat free. The minimum amount of fat for a 3 block meal is 9 grams. Usually the lean protein source contains half the fat needed and the other half is in the fat blocks. When the protein choice has no fat, you double the fat blocks to make up for the fat missing in the protein source. You can read more about this in Zone books. Other than the fat amount the meal is balanced wen you add the numbers on paper, but it may not work well because it contains 2 blocks of unfavorable carbohydrate, the protein powder and the banana. The Zone rule is not more than 25% of all carbohydrate in the meal from an unfavorable source. Try it and see how you feel 4 hours later. If you're not hungry, it might work out ok for you. Better would be to choose a protein powder without any carbohydrate and use berries for all of the carbohydrate.

Yes, if you're counting carbohydrate grams, subtract the grams of fiber and count the remainder.

Hi all, I have been reading from the forums to re-familar-ize myself with the Zone. I was in a few years back so I know it works! My husband and I are ready to get back in. Im 43 and feel 83! We are both overweight and he has just been told that his sugar is over 9.1 should be 6.something. I have printed the food block list and am looking through recipes to start off...I have a question....I ordered the vanilla shake and the peanut bars...my husbands job has him on the go...are these okay for him? Im am figuring that a shake in the morning and a bar for snack will hold him until lunch if need be....OR a shake for lunch and bar for before bed snack....the question is...is it okay for him to eat these?
    Thanks

Yes, they are designed for those situations.
When I go on a business trip (annually to Las Vegas, NV, USA),
I order 1 box of Zone bars and a couple boxes of Zone cereal.
(As well as a short shopping trip for a hotel provided small refrigerator).
