I have been successfully on the zone diet for about 1 year now. I lost 10 pounds in the first 3 months and regained control of my blood sugar. I had battled hypoglycemia for 10+ years before the zone. BUT, I got a bad sinus/ virus after this Christmas that lasted for about a week. I still did light yoga during the illness and followed the diet, but I have gained 5 lbs in a few weeks and I am getting more frequent hypoglycemia. As I said I was in complete control (except during PMS lol) of my blood sugar and had maintained my 10 lb loss easily for a year just by following the diet...has anyone else seen this happen. Why would this happen? I am very discouraged because the last year has been one of the best years I've had in a decade, I was finally normal and feeling great. Thanks for any help provided. Desiree |

Desiree, congrats on your success. Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well. Give it a bit of time. The body is busy with healing now. Sometimes after an illness or surgery, even minor, the body reacts differently for a while. It also sometimes likes to hang onto the status quo until it completely gets back to business as normal, so don't be surprised if you do not drop the added pounds right away when you feel back to normal. Regardless, stick with Zone balanced meals and snacks, keep taking your fish oil and drink plenty of water. That will be you best bet for getting back on track once you body is ready to. A couple more tips, remember to have non-starchy vegetables for most of your carbohydrates to eat berries for fruit. |

No actually, as I mentioned I had easily kept off the weight I lost for almost a year. I got sick with a sinus cold continued eating zone during illness, don't eat grains, yet gained 5 pounds in a couple weeks Not a hormonal thing either. My blood sugars haven't been as stable as before. It's very strange why something that had been great for a year all of a sudden is not |

Desire, The 5 pound gain is most likely mostly water weight and sounds to be probably related to having been sick. I'd first stick with eating the way it was working for you prior to getting sick and see how goes. That said, if your previous meals are now making you hungry, adjust according to Zone principles to try to be able go about 4 hours being hunger free after meals. Human bodies are not static, they can change. A good thing about the Zone is the built in ability to adjust it to meet your changing needs. |

which sometimes occur with menopause and weight gain are hypothyroidism. Your thyroid hormone plays a part in using calories, so if this hormone is low, it can contribute to weight gain.
