I believe what you are referring to was part of the Zone Foods that are no longer produced. I would suggest that you grab a copy of Dr Sears's book "A Week in the Zone" . http://shop.zonediet.com/product/de...l/407.aspx

The book is a tremendous deal. It cost $ 6.29 and will guide you with recipes, ingredidents and menu"s for a week. It also has all basic information regarding eating in the Zone. I suggest you use it for two weeks mixing up the recipes on the 2nd week. Most find themselves on cruise control after that.

For a complete understanding I feel " Mastering the Zone" is a great book. This book is available on this site for $ 17.50. " A Week in the Zone" is included within this book.

There is a ton of information and recipes that can be found within this website. Click on "Tools".

Lastly, I would say; you have great support on this blog. You will find many individuals here who have been eating in the Zone for years and understand that it is not a "Diet" but a way of life. It is more about balancing your food so that your body functions optimally .

    Hi Mary Lou,

It's not complicated when you use Zone At-a-Glance. It works great. I lost 100 pounds using it. You can find it here: http://www.zonediet.com/tools/zone-classic

    Hi all,
I am relatively new too. I've tried the Zone on and off, but want to stick to it now.
Does anybody know where I can find an updated block chart - where it shows the weight of the product for 1 block in grams?

    Thanks a lot.

There is an updated chart available from this website.
But, alas, sadly, it does not list grams.

Hmm... looks like this food block list is from October 2007. I was hoping for a more recent one, but if nothing's changed, I guess this should be ok.

Good point, Mira... I think that there ARE some corrections on that list, which have been pointed out in these forums in the past. For one, 1 cup of cooked carrots are now considered FAVORABLE carb (as of the printing of the Anti-Inflammation Zone).

Also, Mira wanted a list by weight, in grams.
As I pointed out, alas, its by volume.

Agree, the Zone would be more user-friendly adding weight-based measurements for those who measure that way (and those who just want to verify that those cups are not overfilled)

    Hello everyone,

as for the cups, I have a brand new set of American mesures cups. Do they mesure all the same? I mean I have a full cup, half a cup, 1/4 and 1/3 cups; are they standard?
Mira, I have a lit of blocks in grams. If you need I can help

YES, American (USA) cup measures are standard.
3 teaspoons (tsp) to 1 tablespoon (Tbl).
1 Tbl is 1/2 ounce by volume, not weight.
2 Tbl to 1/8 cup, 1 ounce by volume, not weight.
4 Tbl to 1/4 cup, 2 ounces by volume, not weight.
2 cups to a pint, 8 ounces by volume, not weight.
4 cups to a quart, 32 ounces by volume, not weight.
2 pints to a quart, 32 ounces by volume, not weight.
2 quarts to 1/2 USA gallon, 64 ounces by volume, not weight.
4 quarts to 1 USA gallon, 128 ounces by volume, not weight.

    P.S>
You will also see measurements, at times, for dry measures, in some recipes, as:
1 scant cup - just under the rim.
1 level cup, as it implies.
1 full cup, mounded, overflowing the rim.
    .
If there is no qualifier such as scant, level, full - then it is a full or true cup measure.

Regarding the food block guide that is posted on this site (link provided by techie), there are also corrections to be made here. For one, carrots are STILL listed as high density, or unfavorable. And, it has also been pointed out that the measure for spaghetti squash is incorrect, it should be listed as 1 cup per block rather than 2 cups per block.

The ANTI-INFLAMMATION ZONE says 1 cup of sliced cooked carrots per zone block. We have discussed in past threads that carrots have a similar glycemic load as a block of Apple.

    hello betty,
my husband was also diagnosed with type 2 diabetes this past summer, and i am very happy to report that he
is doing wonderfully on the zone!!
his doctor was NOT supportive of him following the zone, as she felt the medication would be more effective.
just to recap, my husband (mark) bloodwork was 415... and within 3-4 weeks on the zone--his bloodwork was under 100
(94), also there were a few days that he cheated , and his bloodwork showed a rise on those days..
    Welcome and good luck....

Suzanne, from what I understand my BS numbers were in the lower end, 126,116 etc. So my doc stated if I could lose the weight and maintain my diet I would more than likely be able to come off the meds, I also have high cholesterol and am on med for that grrr... I do not like to take meds, so my goal is to GET OFF MEDS. I have been trying to lose weight for the last year and it was so easy to say, "oh, tomorrow" now this has become a lifestyle change and my mindset is totally different!! My dr actually told me to do the Zone. My concern is he will expect me to lose a lot of wt and I have never been very small. So I am gonna assume with the Zone I will lose till my body is satisified? I am 5'1 1/2" and the charts have me at like a skeleton!! any thoughts out there?

I had not had the added problem of Diabetes[
however, after 3 months on Zone and High Quality Fish Oil,
I was able to lower my cholesterol from 284 to 204 in 3 months.
I hate having to take meds too, and after my Dr. prescribing 20 mg Zocor back in April 2004,
it was the last straw, and led me to the Zone and Fish Oil and 3 months later an improvement in my Cholesterol.
    Hang in there!

    Hi Betty,

About the two heads of lettuce, yes it takes a lot of lettuce to make 1 Zone block. This info basically lets you know that lettuce in the amounts typically eaten in a normal sized meal is insignificant in the larger picture and doesn't really need to be considered in your carbohydrate intake. Think of it as a freebie.

    Betty,

About your weight loss question, use the Body Fat Calculator on this site to track your fat loss. http://www.zonediet.com/tools/body-...calculator

When you reach 22% body fat, considered the ideal for a female, you add a little more monounsaturated fat to your meals to prevent further fat loss.

SUE, THANK YOU FOR THE RESPONSE! Y'ALL ARE ALL AWESOME AT HELPING, SUCH A BLESSING! AND I LIKE THE SALAD FREEBIE, WITH A LIL FRESH LEMON JUICE YOU HAVE A FREE SNACK? I DOWNLOADED AND PRINTED THE MEAL JOURNAL AND I REALIZED I WASN'T EATING ENOUGH! I WAS EATING ONLY 1 BLOCK PER GROUP AND WAS GETTING FULL!! OF COURSE I REALIZE IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO FUEL MY BODY. GOOD GRIEF IT TAKES ALL I CAN DO TO EAT MY 11 BLOCKS, I AM ALWAYS STUFFED WHEN I GET DONE EATING! IS THIS NORMAL? PLUS I DRINK AROUND 90-120 OZ OF WATER A DAY.

Betty, many people feel stuffed at first. The trick is to choose carbohydrates of varying densities. That will help change your meal volume. For example, you could make an average sized meal of 3 oz grilled chicken breast, 1 cup spaghetti squash topped with 1/2 cup tomato sauce and a drizzle of olive oil and 1/2 cup blueberries for dessert.

I think it's usually about 1/4 cup of egg beaters for 1 P block, but check the label for be sure (7 g protein = 1 P block). Since egg beaters are usually fat free, you'll need to add at least 1 extra fat block or ever block of eggbeaters you use in a meal. This will provide the correct amount of fat for a one balanced meal. Other common fat free Zone protein sources are deli-style meats, fat free dairy and protein powder.
