    Karen:

Hi. There is a wealth of resources here on the web. The forums are visited by unofficial experts and even official ones who can help. You can also call the Zone Diet people themselves and ask questions. They do still employ a Zone counselor for that exact purpose.

In the meantime, the book Enter The Zone is a great place to start to learn about the diet and how it works, your own personal food requirements, and a list of foods sorted by those which are more favorable and those which are less favorable- The Zone Block Guide. There is a version of the Zone Block guide on this site here:
    http://www.zonediet.com/tools/zone-classic

    Hope that helps!

Thank you guys so much. Wanted to ask you,
1- if I have a block of carbs, and a block of protein and of fat, do I calculate the carbs that are in the protein
Or the the protein that is in the carbs? Hope you understand my question.. Haha
Example: yugort (7 grams of protein)+small apple+spoon of avocado : do I calculate the carbs in the yugort?
2- do I always need to add a block of fat or it's ok without it? Cause almost everything has a little fat in it..
3- what's a block when you use flour? 2 tablespoons?
    Thank you!!!!!!!
    Karen.

    1. The easiest way to determine if the food is a protein/carb/fat is by using the food block guide on this site. Mostly, you don't need to be concerned about the protein content of veggies and beans, they basically count as carb blocks. The only "mixed" protein/carb blocks are from dairy products, milk and yogurt. Of course, you can also use the food labels to determine this, but again--don't be concerned with the protein content found in veggies and beans!

    2. Each complete zone block assumes that the protein source has some protein in it. So, a complete block should have approximately 9g carb, 7g protein, and 3g fat. So, if what you are eating exceeds the amount for fat, then don't need to add any more. Also, keep in mind that you don't have to be exact.

    3. I don't use flour very much at all, so had to look that up!! 2 tbsp is pretty close to 1 carb block. Keep in mind that flour is an unfavorable carb, so use it sparingly!

    Hi Karen,

It's not necessary to count the little bits of P, and C.

Yes, to counting the carbohydrate in plain yogurt. Skip the apple altogether in that snack. Plain yogurt already has an optimal P/C balance for the Zone. Plain Greek yogurt is usually a bit lower in C, so you can add a couple slices of apple, or a few berries and get away with it.

Always add a little monounsaturated fat to lean proteins. Double the amount of added monounsaturated fat if your protein choice is fat free. If you choose a protein source like salmon or a reduced fat cheese, which are both a bit higher in fat, you don't really have to add monounsaturated fat, but you'll gain better insulin control if you do.

    Skip the flour.

An easier way is to do Zone At-a-Glance, no measuring or block counting involved. Put lean protein the size and thickness of your plan on a dinner sized plate and fill up the rest of the plate with favorable veggies and fruit. then add a dash of monounsaturated fat.

Those bars will are not recommended for the Zone Diet. Dr Sears and Zone Labs are not affiliated with that company.

    To answer your question!
Thos bars are balanced; HOWEVER, there is more to it than just balancing.
Since the carbs in most bars are not usually favorable, there is a high insulin spike.
The DR. Sears ZONE bars, not available in stores, are designed to slowly release thus avoiding the spikes.
    .
By-the-way; Why were the Dr, Sears ZONED Hershey bars only made for a very short time?
TECH? Though, probably before your time ...

I recall that TARGET, of all places, carried them.
So, Tech, why were they stopped?
Can you find out, if any plans to revive?
    (Though doubtful!)

Hmmm, I don't recall an explanation of it, just that they were discontinued and many of us were sad about it.

Not that I have a lot of time to burn (but must be bored LOL), I did a search of the forums. I came up with a few links, and I could not find any concrete explation as to the discontinuation of the Hershey SmartZone bars. There was a lot of speculation, but never any official explanation.

    CranCat is correct:
There was NEVER an explanation, they were just not available anymore.
Sears and Co. were very, very silent...
Same with CedarLane - though I could never find those.
Only a select few were able to find and purchase those.
And I am not too far from Dr. Sears HQ - only 45 min away,
(or so - give or take Boston rsch hour traffic - <grin>
