I just read in the Zone Meals in Seconds that you are not supposed to have more than one piece of toast in the morning. Is it OK to have 1 block of bread and maybe one block of oatmeal? I don't think I can get my hands on (and prepare in the morning) the steal cut kind though...
Thanks for your input!
PS I had brunch on Sunday and I only ate one of the four toast halves. I didn't ever care to eat the other ones. Wow! So not like me....

Regarding the steel cut oats. Why not make a big batch on the weekend and then freeze in individual containers.

Hi Tessa, your goal would be to cone as close ad you can to eliminating bread from your diet. As I've mentioned today in another thread here, it's all about achieving the best insulin control possible, and it's not likely that you'll be able to do so if you're eating bread.

Margaret I ended up with a whole weeks worth of oatmeal by accident. :D I followed the directions for what I thought was one serving. Once it was done cooking I had close to 7 zone servings. I measured it all out into individual containers and was able to have something hot to eat during the week.
I'm going to do it again this weekend.

Where does one get steel cut oats? I have not found any in my area and I've been using old fashion oats when I do have them. I've only been having them once or twice a week but if I could find the right ones I wouldn't mind having them more often.
I like the idea of pre-making them. How well do they reheat?
Also, what do you guys eat with your oatmeal to round it out into a meal? I've tried protein powder (meh - its bearable) or hard boiled eggs.

Hi, I usually have a low fat cottage cheese or quark with it. Or I make pancakes, or bake it and to this I add protein powder as well as egg and cottage cheese
