Im just starting the Zone and ordered the quick start foods.... I am planning ahead though for how to eat after that 2 weeks (what foods would I want to re-order, meals to plan, etc).

I already use a shake brand (is my breakfast every morning) that is made of fruit and vegetable proteins, no dairy, no gluten. The nutrition for the shake is:
    Protein 10g
    Carbs 15g
    Fat 0g
I add 1 cup of non-sweetened almond milk which adds:
    Protein 1g
    Carbs 2g
    Fat 3.5g

Based on these numbers, does this mean a breakfast using my shake brand would be:
    Protein 2 blocks
    Carb 2 blocks
    Fat 2 blocks
    ???

And if so, does this mean I'll need to make up the extra block per PCF in another meal or snack?

I'd love any feedback that I am calculating this correct and if I can still use my shake brand once I start the ZONE eating after the 2 week jump start??

    Thanks!! :D

I would be careful about shake mixes, as it does not always mean much to just calculate the grams out. The ingredients are important to consider. Not saying that you need to use a Zone brand, but just realize that some shake mixes are high in unfavorable carbs.

According to the numbers you provided, your shake with almond milk yields:
    11gP, 17gC, 3.5gF
10gP, 10gC, 5.5gF you need to add for 3 blocks
    ___________________
    21gP, 27gC, 9gF 3 block shake

you could add: protein powder to equal 10gP, berries to equal 10gC, almonds or almond butter to equal 5.5gF Blend it all up.

drsears.com has great information, just click on the resources tab. I hope you ordered A Week in the Zone book.

Thank you - sounds like a big meal to me!

Question about the 2 week quick start plan, I am waiting for it to arrive to begin and I am literally planning to use the 2 week menu. If I like the products I plan to reorder as right now I have a very busy schedule so the premade items is very convenient to start the Zone. Then I'll probably use them for some meals but make others by scratch from non pre-packaged foods.

I am confused how it can be ONE plan for everyone? It doesnt ask you your height or weight to determine the 2 week menu. I am 5'-3.5", 130 lbs and I'd like to lose about 13 pounds as well as learn a new way of approaching food as I am an insomniac, hypoglycemic and finding it harder to maintain my weight.

Can I lose weight on this plan?

If you have insomnia, are hypoglycemic and having trouble maintaining weight then the Zone is going to be good for you. Why dont you start the classic Zone now instead of waiting for the packaged food? I am sure you will get benefits from it straight away.

Are you an active person? Have you entered your stats into the Body Fat Calculator to find out how many blocks you should be having? You will need to enter your height, weight, waist and hip measurements and select your activity level.

    Yes - I am 11 blocks

Honestly....I am too busy right now to handmake everything from scratch and do all the counts. I literally have to set
an alarme to tell myself to go to bed on time!!

I am just committing right now to walking every day and that's been hard to find the time! That is why, for
now, I am starting with the kit.

Print off a copy of the Grocery Additions PDF for reference it suggests what you can add w/o a recipe. http://www.zonediet.com/plans/grocery-additions

    for example:
    1 of theses a day-legumes
up to 8 a day- non starchy vegetables, low glycemic
    and so on

Thank you - I have already printed off all of the materials, I've been reading throughout the website AND have ordered 2 books.
I still have the same question however regarding the "quick start weightloss" program:

I am confused how it can be ONE plan for everyone? It doesnt ask you your height or weight to determine the 2 week menu.

The package is for "most" people not really small and not really large. The protein in the Zone foods is what does the heavy work. Maybe this will help you understand...

    www.zonediet.com/blog/2010/02/give-your-second-brain-a-chance/

This is a portion of the article(link)above.

So the ideal diet for those overweight individuals with a high initial insulin response may not only be a low glycemic-load diet (i.e. Zone Diet), but also a diet rich in casein. That’s why I am excited by the new generation of Zone Foods. They have a low glycemic load (similar to fruits) and are also rich in casein. The combination of the two factors may result in increased satiety because the delayed digestion and absorption means more of the initial carbohydrate and protein in the meal is reaching the L-cells, thus potentially releasing more GLP-1 and PYY.

If you aren’t hungry, then cutting back on calories is much easier, especially if you have a high initial insulin response to meals. This is the science behind the new Zone Foods. The science is complex, but the actual execution of that science is not, as long as you like to eat Zone bread, Zone pasta, and Zone pizza.

    Great, thanks!
So I'll kind of have to gauge as I go it seems. The sample 2 week menu sounds like a good amount of food for me. I am so hung up on
'calories in / calories out' and I am wanting to LOSE weight. I have read alot however that The Zone doesnt concentrate on the
calories too much, so I might have to change my way of thinking for a bit. If I dont have any weightloss in the first month, I'll take a look
    at the calorie counts.
