[quote:c4eb7fe64b="cofieorg"]Hello Zoners!
I am new to the zone diet, in fact I just finished reading the book, and I am planning my zone diet strategy. I have been on my own diet plan for little over a year and I have lost 60 pounds, but it seems I have hit a wall at 230 pounds. This is the first time that I have been on a “public diet plan” and I am glad to see that there are forums where I can find useful information from others on the same diet! I have calculated that I have to consume 20 daily protein blocks; I am wondering if included in those blocks are carbs and fats? For instance for breakfast: 2 egg whites (PP), 1 slice of wheat toast (CC), butter (F), 1/3 tsp canola oil (F). Does this seem like an appropriate breakfast meal?
Thanks for your help! :D[/quote:c4eb7fe64b]
Hi cofieorg,
Welcome to the forum.
While your breakfast is certainly zone you could possible substitute more favourable carbs and fats.
Now your egg whites are an excellent protein source
Wheat bread is unfavourable so substituting fruit would be a big improvement, how about an apple or an orange instead of the bread. Even half the bread and half the fruit would be an improvement.
Butter is all saturated fat and so is unfavourable. Chances are you only wanted it for the toast anyway so if you have fruit you will not need the butter. Im not saying you cant sometimes have butter, but it should be used spareingly. Now your Canola oil is a good favourable fat and in many regards constitutes a good choice. However extra virgin olive oil is a far better selection. You could also select nuts as a good favourable fat if you wanted, for part of the meal.
I hope you find these comments helpful. There is a lot to learn with this program, but you have come to the right place. There are many helpful people here.
