I thought I would pose this question here, since vegetarians tend to use soy more often.
How much soy flour counts as a block? I am looking for a measurement in cups, is it 1/3 cups? And, is it a protein/carb block combo?

I'm not into cups, etc. being an Italian guy but if you go to http://www.nutritiondata.com/index.html you'll find the nutritional values of all the foods you need.

Hi! My soy flour that I've found here in Finland (Soyolk) has a bit different stats than those flours posted on the website above. There's a lot less carbs in my flour than the one with full fat flour on the site: per 100g protein 39 g carbs 16 g !! fat 20 g That means that 33 g / 1 oz / 1 dl contains 2 blocks of protein and 0.6 blocks of carbs. Basically what I've done until now is that I've considered 0.5 dl ( 17g / 0.5 oz) of soy flour as one block of protein and a half block of carbs.. I haven't counted the fat, though. So, should I count the carbs also? It's just that the soy flour is the only source of protein for my breakfast and if I use 1.5 oz / 1.5 dl in my 3 block-porridge that means I should use less oat (approximately minus one block of carbs). I'd like to know what you think about this.. I know there's some dissimilarity between the soy flours. Anyway, before everything I use it because it's the best source of protein considering the nature and the animals.. :) Besides it tastes SO good! I wish you all a nice day, by the way. Hi Outi! I'd consider 33 g of this flour to be 2P, 1/2 C, 2 F. The rest of the fat in it would represent the usual amount of fat that's hidden in 2 P blocks. The reason I'd count the carb is that I'm carb sensitive. If you're not carb sensitive, or if you'rr eonlu eating about 16 g of it, then no need to count the carb, since it would only be about 1/4 C block per P block. Now that I think of it, for you I wouldn't count the fat either, because you need a little extra fat to gain some weight. |

Yes I haven't been counting the fat it would make it way too complicated! But I will continue counting the carbs because I think I'm quite carb sensitive. When I haven't been exact enough with this soy-breakfast of mine I've noticed being hungry already after 3-4 hours... :) |
