Hi everyone, I am new here, and have about 60 lbs. to lose. I've tried Weight Watchers, but seemed to be hungry a lot of the time. I picked up the Soy Zone and it looks intriguing. If I can figure it out, I'd like to try it. My only question - will I be hungry all of the time? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question. I know to lose weight, you have to be a little hungry, but I just can't take being starving all of the time and having to eat popcorn every day just to fill up my stomach. Thanks so much, Kim |

Hi Kim, You will not be hungry in the Zone, not even a little. And you will lose your excess stored fat. With the Zone diet, the absence of hunger means you're doing great and that you're keeping your insulin within the range of the Zone. Hunger signals the need to adjust your protein, carb and fat intake. If you try the soy Zone and you're hungry, I'll be happy to help. |

Thanks so much, Sue! I can't wait to give it a try. I'm a vegetarian and I've been filling up with carbs and junk, lacking protein, and just generally feeling tired with no energy. I think the Soy Zone sounds perfect for me. Thanks again for your reply; I really appreciate it. |

Hi Kim—
I am new as of a few days ago. I also tried WW. I lost 10 pounds but have been trying to lose another 15 for literally years. I like the points system but find that a couple of hours after my sandwich and baked chips I would be ravenous and devour all the rest of the chips or half a box of crackers that my (very thin) husband bought for himself.
I finally started the Zone diet last Wednesday. I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian basically, though I sometimes have fish and chicken. I have not been hungry AT ALL, my energy level is more constant and I have lost three pounds. Good luck!

Hi Lorraine I am confused. How can you be a Lacto-ovo vegetarian and sometimes eat fish and chicken? I know lacto is dairy and ovo is eggs but does it mean you can eat the chicken and still be vegetarian? I know quite a few people who say they are vegetarian but eat fish ..... If you want some good vegetarian Zone recipes, check out the 7 Day Menu Planner on this site (right of screen). I am not vegetarian but I am going to try some of the tofu recipes as they sound delicious and its always good to have a variety of foods. regards Margaret |

Dear Margaret, That is why I said "basically." I do know that fish and chicken are not vegetables I prefer not to eat meat and have it rarely. Best, Lorraine |

Hi Lorraine My son was a Vegan for 6 years - that must have been really hard as Vegans dont eat anything from animals plus they dont wear anything made from animals. He would even ask the shoe sales person was the glue made from animal! He is a now a big meat eater as he is a powerlifter. He sometimes has soy products like hot dogs/sausages. I am sure there is a word for those who like the "Vegetarian" idea but who also like to have the occasional meal of animal protein. I am like that. I will have a chicken or fish meal but do like to also have a vegetarian meal. I will ask my son! I am going to make one of the meals from the 7 day vegetarian planner today so will let you know how it turns out. Margaret |

Cranberry, I just did the old semicolon/close parentheses thing and it came out as a real smiley, which I wasn't expecting! Margaret, I'm kind of an "aspiring" vegetarian, mostly because it's a bit difficult when I'm traveling. in any case, let me know how those veggie meals come out. I think people who eat only fish and veggies are called "pesco-vegetarians!" I don't know if I'm going to be able to go Total Zone. I had a whole-grain English muffin for breakfast with PB and unsweetened applesauce, but a zoned salad lunch and Zone snacks. Either way, I feel as if the last few days have broken the bad cycle I was on, muffin/sandwich/chips/oatmeal cookie/crash/ravenous...I would hate to think that one piece of rye toast would send me on a rollercoaster ride to blood sugar hell (I'm trying that winky-face again) but we'll see. |

Hi Lorraine You are the Queen of the Smiley/Winky Faces!! You are the only one lately who was succesful in doing this. Sorry if I was being a bit picky about the Vegetarian issue. Thanks for the update on "Pesco-vegetarian" - I will have to do some googling! ha ha ..... Just finished lunch and it was delicious! I made the Spinach and Tofu Quicherole with Fruit Salad. I had everything I needed in the pantry which was a first! I added a small salad with lettuce and feta - and just had a peach instead of the fruit salad. Re your breakfast with the muffin - all you needed to do was add protein - an egg would have gone nicely - and your meal would have been balanced. Maybe you could come up with a recipe for oatmeal cookies using the steel cut oats - please share it you do! As long as you have the Zone in the back of your mind when making choices when travelling that is a positive. Dont beat yourself up if the good choices arent there and you have to eat out of the Zone. As Barry Sears says .... you can get back into the Zone with your next meal. Margaret |

C. Cat, not to obsess about this smiley puzzle, but...you just did a colon/close-parenthesis? I'm mystified by all that code. I will refrain from Smileying this time, so as not to gloat...d'oh! It was hard not to put one there.
Margaret, I've had that quicherole meal a few times and thought it was really delish. Yes, you're right, I could have had a piece of string cheese or an egg with that meal to round it out, think I will do so in the morning; thanks for the tip. That's well put also, having the Zone in the back of one's mind. This snack thing with the half piece of fruit, 5 almonds, ounce of low fat cheese, you'd think it wouldn't be enough but it is. |

Cran,
They look cute that way too, though; but maybe...are you on a PC? Because I'm on a Mac.
This thread has sure wandered off from Kim's question. I hope you're doing well, Kim, wherever you are! |

Yes, I am on a PC, not a Mac. I wonder, that could be it. I peeked at that quicharole recipe, and it looks delish! I might have to try that one. :>) |
