Hello everyone. I am hoping to get some ideas from other parents, or anyone that has suggestions. I do feed my girls zone style lunches -of course they do get treats once in a while. I send everyday for lunch a ham a cheese(tukey meat and an oz of low-fat cheddar cheese) sandwich. I am looking for other ideas on what I could send instead for protein. We've never experimented with soy/tofu..and wouldnt know how to send that anyways. Anyone have any suggestions? I heard on the news this morning that females that eat red meat, pork, processed - have a 50% more chance at getting breast cancer, yes,it's more for women over the age of 35, but they also said all females.) So I thought I should start mixing it up a little. I wont totally take their lunch meats away, but to have more options.
    Sorry this was so long.
I am looking forward to hearing back from you!!
    thanks in advance!!:D

    Hi Julie,
You’ll have to experiment with your children to find out what they like. They’re many delicious imitation soybean products available today. These are the soy products that Dr. Sears recommends as they are made from isolated and concentrated soy protein. Soy protein concentrate has no isoflavones (phytochemicals known as phytoestrogens) while soy protein isolate contains small amounts of isoflavones. Dr. Sears recommends limiting our isoflavone intake to no more than 50mg. per day. Confused? For more info see the March Zone Living Newsletter at www.zoneliving.com.
The news headlines are designed to grab our attention. “females that eat red meat, pork, processed - have a 50% more chance at getting breast cancer.” It’s usually informative to review the study the media is referring to. There are so many variables. What was their overall diet like, did they control insulin, did they take a minimum of 2,500mg. of a high quality fish oil daily, did they reduce stress, exercise daily? As you know the Zone is about balance, moderation, variety and has been shown to reduce the risk of chronic disease.
    Hope this helps.

If your kids like nuts and cocoa I posted a ZONE bar which is quite good ( at least we think so). It is 1 complete block of C F P. If you cut them to 2 block portions they can be used as 'bread' on which you can put lean deli cuts. A piece of fruit and a carton of milk and your child will have a 4 block meal in a minute.

Of course, as the moderator said, you must see what your child likes. Enjoy creating kid meals - they are always a ZONE challenge!

I have to agree, I mean Dr. Sears said it himself. Red meat, Egg Yolks and so on are high in AA (Arachidonic Acid), and AA=Inflammation, And we all know what inflammation leads to... PAIN AND ILLNESS witch is what we all are preventing with the Zone Diet...

Zone Bars are in first thread with title ZONE BARS (original author of thread is LAETITIA) in the WEIGHTLOSS section, I believe the first group of threads on the FORUM page...they are really super. I also postedin the same thread CHERRY MUFFINS and when I have a bit more time will add a couple more. Right now I am up to my ears in work and can't translate too much stuff...sorry but next week will definitely get down a couple more!:)

Oh, I think I saw that thread, but I don't remember the cocoa and the nuts in there. I will have to look at that again! Thanks!

my son really like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. sicne the bread isn't zone friendly, i decided to serve them on a low carb soft taco tortilla (5C, 5P) i get from wal-mart. he likes them just as well. maybe more since i hyped them up! ;-) proportion the peanut butter and jelly right and add a little cottage cheese (or other protein source) and he's a happy camper.
