Several years ago my father required a j tube for all feeding, which amounted to giving him several cans a day of Jevity, a high-carb liquid meal replacement. He eventually died after his 6th bout of pneumonia. No doubt the all carb diet wreaked its own effects on his body, and I’ve often wondered how a diet of Zone balanced liquids would have decreased inflammation in his lungs and how it might have mitigated symptoms of cancer over-all. Can you imagine living out your days on a diet of donuts? No wonder people get so weak and their systems go to rot when they’re put on a hospital liquid diet (as for me, I’d like to put something in a living will akin to, “In case of severe incapacitation, give me Zone balanced liquids or let me starve”). Are there any doctors or nutritionists reading this who have observed this and have altered their patient’s liquid diets? I’m guessing that this single factor has greatly compromised the recovery of millions of patients. Any thoughts?
