I have been a zone fanatic for a very long time, but have just been diagnosed with gout. Many of the ideal zone foods are on the avoid list to prevent gout flare-ups. My research into exact foods has produced some conflicting guidance, but I do believe the following is recommended for persons with gout:
    - Minimize protein (less than recommended zone levels I believe) and particularly avoid much seafood (sardines, mussells, etc.), turkey, sausages (perhaps the nitrites?), and more..
    - Aviod many zone healthy carbs, such as spinach, kale, lentils, mushrooms, and more.
    - Milk derived proteins, such as cheeses and yogurt seem to be OK, but other health sites say to minimize such protein sources but much of what do they recomend for protein are on the avoid list for gout. Any problems eating lots of cheese?

Still trying to remain faithful to zone eating and am hoping someone has assessed this already and can provide guidance or links to good references for staying in the zone while avoiding gout flareups.

    Thanks
    Sue

Michael, click on drsears.com in the blue toolbar at the top of this page, then put gout in the search box on that page to find Q&A's by Dr. Sears about gout and the Zone.
