    Hello,

I started taking the Zone "Bone health" capsules 2 months ago, as I was concerned for bone loss.
I am 40, and eating a Zone/Paleo diet, and I am very active (Crossfit Endurance Ironman training).
Also I am not interested in eating soy products.

This morning it was in the news that calcium supplements are not healthy!

    Anyone advise on this one?

    Thanks!

Headlines are just that - and there to grab your attention.
You have to dig deeper into any and all headlines, esp. the Health ones.
And the study was not a "study" but an analysis of a survey (questionnaire) sent out to people ...
And there is also the fact that it could also depend on the form of calcium that was used: this survey did not distinguish.
Instead it lumped any and all calcium supplements that people took, together.
Not controlled or scientific, at all. Not all calcium supplements are the same form of calcium or nor are all the same quality.
Some forms of calcium supplements are not readily absorptive as other forms.
P.S.> Dr. Sears uses quality ingredients.

Calcium Supplements May Be Bad for Your Heart: Study
Review says getting mineral from food is safer, but another expert disagrees
    .
By Steven Reinberg - HealthDay Reporter
    .
WEDNESDAY, May 23 (HealthDay News) -- Many older Americans take calcium supplements to prevent bone loss, but they may be significantly increasing their risk for a heart attack, a new study suggests.
    .
These supplements do not help prevent heart attacks or stroke as some previous research has suggested, the study authors say.
But dietary calcium might reduce the risk, they noted.

So, he stated, "while further studies are needed, calcium supplements should be used only in those where the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks."
    .
While the study found an association between calcium intake and heart attacks, it did not prove a cause-and-effect relationship.

    OOPS: Typo!
Not all calcium supplements are the same form of calcium or nor are all the same quality.
Not all calcium supplements are the same form of calcium nor are all the same quality.
    .
    Also:
It does not state that Calcium supplements are necessarily harmful, as the headline would lead you to believe.
The study just SUGGESTS that calcium supplements do not help in the prevention of heart problems.
So .... I would not be too concerned.
Even at the bottom of this article, it states that if you do take a calcium supplement,
take no more than 500 mg twice per day.
    Good advice, anyway.
And I would add to that, a high quality supplement, such as Dr. Sears.

Another point to consider when choosing a calcium supplement, is to look at the label for "elemental" calcium. Calcium in other forms is not fully absorbed.

    Thanks John and Cranberry Cat!

Normally I don't get to freaked out by news; don't eat this, eat that etc. One week it's this, the next it's different.
I think whatever works well with your specific body is good.

But yes, I'll keep on using Bone health, as I do have a faith in the Zone supplements, all of them!

    I appreciate your quick responses!
