Hi! I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Sarcoidosis 18 years ago. Both the Mayo Clinic and my pulmonologist recommended a therapy that included large doses of prednisone. The therapy took about 2 years. I gained 90 pounds, my personality changed and I do not feel as mentally sharp as I did prior to scarcoidosis. I also developed asthma and chronic sinusitis.I have not been able to lose the weight I gained during the therapy. Early this year my health deteriorated and I was diagnosed with a relapse of sarcoidosis. I really want to get my health back. I have been working with Dr. Deepti Sadwhani for about three months and have lost 30 or so pounds. She has me using fish oil, CLA, vitamin D and some supplements. The weight loss was quick at first but has now slowed. Have any members of the blog had scarcoidosis and what has been their experience with the Zone? I have been told that my weight gain is metabolic and as such will be difficult to loose. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks Curt |

Curt, I have not experienced this disease, but have seen its effects on some of the patients that I have dealt with in the past. The only advice that I have to give you is that you will likely need to adhere strictly to the Zone. The Prednisone has had a lot to do with your weight gain, and you will need to focus on very strict insulin control. Many people who are chronically on Prednisone end up developing a Prednisone-induced Diabetes. So, you will just need to do your best with diet and choosing the best foods that you can. Definitely stick with the supplements, call Zone Labs and talk with some experts on what else can benefit you. I definitely believe that you have come to the right place, and it does sound like you are doing the right things, fish oil, vitamin D, etc. Please continue to post and let us know how things are going! |

Cranberrycat Thanks for your post. I had a biopsy to confirm that indeed sarcoidosis had returned and that it was not lymphoma. I went to see Dr. Deepti Sadwhani who is a colleague of Dr. Sears. She put on 15 caps of fish oil a day and I have not had to start prednisone therapy at all-I was very relieved. I feel better and people tell me I am sharper. I will take your advise and call the Zone labs. Thanks for the tip. Regards Curt |

Hi I have been having great luck with the Zone and fish oil. amy health has improved and I have lost 35 pounds. I when to the doctors for a check up and labs. The labs were great and so was most of the checkup. My EKG showed that I was in Artrial Fib. I have a right bundle branch block so my EGKs are never normal but I have never had any other heart issues. My doctor took me off fish oil and sent me to a cardiologist. I am on a blood thinner Xiralto and am schdules for a TEE and cardioversion Wednesday. Apparently there is some connection with fish oil and A Fib. Anybody have any similar experience. Ant suggestions. Thanks a somewhat bummed out Curt |

Hi Curt, Great result! Sorry to hear about the EKG finding. Good luck on Wed. It's not fun waiting for tests and results, but soon you'll have moree info. Also, I'm thinking you might want to find out more about the specific type of A. Fib. you have. I've read Dr. Sears' opinion that fish oil supplementation is imperative for individuals with A. Fib. |

Curt, I am assuming that they took you off of the fish oil because you are taking warfarin (coumadin) and they don't want to risk any interactions between the blood thinner and the potential for the fish oil to exacerbate the thinning properties. I would guess that after you are successfully cardioverted, that you will probably be able to resume the fish oil (of course, up to your cardiologist). If he does not resume the fish oil, please ask him! He may forget to resume it (they often do forget because it is a "supplement" and not a necessary medication in their eyes), or he may have a very good clinical reason for not resuming it--and I would love to hear the rationale, so please post again!

I just re-read your post, and you are on a different brand of blood thinner than what I am familiar with, but I believe that the risk of bleeding is still increased if fish oil is taken with your new medication. So, same advice as from my previous post. |
