I just bought some hamburger from a place that raises animals "naturally."

I did ask: any pesticides? There are none in the hamburger. What about antibiotics? Again, none.

I didn't ask about HOW they raised their animals naturally, though.

But it talks about natural this and that.

    LOL ...

Now on to my question. The saturated fat in this kind of hamburger--is it OK for my heart, e.g., not clogging my heart?

    Thanks!

The Saturated fat in grass-fed, hormone-free, antibiotic-free beef is still saturated fat.
However, it is minimal and it contains more healthy CLA,
and the Omeg-6/Omega-3 ration in grass-fed beef is much, much better than grass-fed beef.
(The ratio in grass-fed beef is as God intended for us ..)
    .
We purchase the same and when we fry it up with no additional fats at all,
in a Cuisanart, ceramic-coated frying pan (Green Gourmet line),
no added fat is needed to cook our meats,
and grass fed meat has very little fat and tastes wonderful.
    .
Pot Roast (cut is Chuck) is usually a very fatty meat.
However, my wife just put in the crock pot (slow-cooker) our second of three we ordered while on sale.
Normally I frowned in the past when she purchased a Chuck Roast - but she bought them every once in a while for our daughter.
(last of four still at home.)
    .
BUT, when we had the grass-fed version, oh my gosh, hardly any fat. still tender, though took a bit more to cook,
and the taste! It had a lot of taste, not fatty tasting, and no fat to wrestle off and discard.
Not the best cut in general, but not a bad choice- IF if it is grass-fed.

hi John, thanks for this. I will ask if it's grass-fed then ...

I normally try to drain the fat in hamburger but then it loses some of its taste ... :-(

I will try cooking this hamburger and see how it goes ... :-)

    Sarah,
Just make sure you verify that these animals are grass fed/grazing, rather than grain fed animals. I imagine that they could make a claim that their corn is "organic" and call that "natural"

Otherwise, I agree with John's comments (I think he has a typo and his post reads kind of strange, but sounds like he is saying that grass fed beef is what to look for, as it has the lowest amount of saturated fat, lower ratio of omega-6/omega-3, and is the way God meant for us to eat beef.)

Sarah, bottom line is conventionally raised beef contains too much AA (arachidonic acid, a highly inflammatory fat) to be a good Zone choice. Grass fed beef contains less AA than conventionally raised beef.
