Converting Recipes??

    I have recipes I would still like to use while on the zone diet but I need help converting the ingredients into a block formula. Does anyone know if there is software available that will convert the recipes for me?

    Not software, but you can use several on-line databases where you enter the ingredients, either separately or as a "meal" or "recipe" and it gives you the basic (or extended) nutrient breakdown.
    From the breakdown, you can then convert to blocks.

    With most, you have to subtract the Fiber from the Carbs to get net Carbs.

    Spark People & related Spark Recipes appears to be the most comprehensive!
    I can not find some "alternate" ingredients in most of the other websites,
    like "Ground Flax Meal" & "Coconut Flour".

    I just double-checked Spark Recipes and entered a couple of recipes I have found,
    but not yet tried.
    One thing nice about Spark Recipes, you can manually enter a food not found, and the nutrient info is entered in the same order as the label.
    And you can manually enter a food, and use conversion calculator while you are entering the recipe.
    You can also submit the recipe to be shared.
    I wonder if Sue or Cran-cat would consider starting to enter some of their BEST Classic Zone recipes into Spark Recipes?

    Melissa, I have used various websites as John listed. I have used my fitness pal, as well. Many of these websites can be fine-tuned so that you can self-adjust the nutrient ratios to an appropriate zone balance. Of course, not totally accurate because veggie proteins alter the protein counts, and fiber alters the carb counts, but at least you can get an idea of the recipe balance.

    John, I haven't used sparkpeople for awhile, but will have to take that into consideration!

    Because SparkRecipes allows folks to enter and share food ingredients,
    One can find foods not traditionally in most Nutrition databases.
    Like Coconut flour, Chia seeds, and Ground Flax Flour.

    Esp. since my wife and I are moving to nearly completely grain-free in addition to Sugar-Free as we have been on the Zone. I've cut down from even having the Ezekiel (sprouted) bread from about every-other day to only once or twice per week. Not sure about it as a grain or not, but i do enjoy it, now and then. And it is much healthier than any other "bread".

    I have tow other grain-less pizza dough recipes I want to try, as well.
    But one calls for 4 whole eggs. I am OK with eggs. But if I am going to expense and out-of-my way to purchase farm Fresh PASTURED (see my post on Egg package TERMS!). I want to taste and enjoy the eggs, and not se them in a baked recipe. Maybe when my neighbor has additional eggs available (rarely) from their 2 chickens.

    The other recipe only calls for 3 eggs.
    I'll try those two, and figure Nutrition data, before posting.
    (As opposed to the Eggplant pizza dogh recipe, which i posted before trying.)
