I was wondering if someone might be able to help me check this recipe I came up with. I think it might still be a little high on the carbs....
Ingredients:
- 1 c. uncooked steel rolled oats (makes 20 oz. or 2.5 c. cooked oatmeal)
- 4 c. water
- 1 1/3 scoops (32 g) of Jay Robb's strawberry protein powder
- 8 tsp. slivered almonds
Directions:
Wisk/stir/blend protein powder with water. Bring liquid to a boil. Add
steel oats and boil for 5 minutes. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered
for 30 minutes. Remove from heat. Scoop 1/4 of the oatmeal into a bowl
and sprinkle with 2 tsp. of the slivered almonds.
Makes four 2 block servings. |

I used Country Choice Organic Steel Cut Oats (1/4C serv+= 3F/27C/5P)and your calc on PP (asuming only 32gP added).
This would make 6-2 block servings or 4-3 block servings:
You would want to add a total of about 24gF/0C/64gP to the oatmeal. You would add another 8 tsp almonds and another 32g protein powder. |

I also used Country Choice Steel Cut Oats. Wouldn't the correct carbohydrates be be 22g per 1/4 c. serving (dry)? I subtracted the dietary fiber of 4g and the sugar of 1g from the total carbohydrate amount per serving of 27g.
Thanks!

Jennifer you are correct in the respect to fiber, you subtract the fiber from the total C. You must count the sugar though so the oatmeal C/serv=23, so for the 6-2 block servings or 4-3 block servings you would add 16C.
I would add berries. |

As I know its not good to cook protein, better to add after cooking when oatmeal is done.

OK, I redid the calculations, and I understand having to add more protein and fat to balance out the blocks.
Just checking on one thing though. I am coming up with the amount cooked at just under 11 blocks. Are you rounding the 11 blocks to 12 to get the 6-2 block servings?
Is there a problem with cooking the protein powder too? I didn't seem to have have any adverse effects on the taste.
Thanks so much for everyone's input!!!

OK - think I might have it finally:
Ingredients:
- 1 c. uncooked steel rolled oats (makes 20 oz. or 2.5 c. cooked oatmeal)
- 4 c. water
- 56 g of Jay Robb's strawberry protein powder
- 16 tsp. slivered almonds
Directions:
Wisk/stir/blend protein powder with water. Bring liquid to a boil. Add
steel oats and boil for 5 minutes. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered
for 30 minutes. Remove from heat.
To make 4-3 block servings.
Scoop 1/4 of the oatmeal into a bowl and sprinkle with 4 tsp. of the slivered almonds.
To make 6-2 block servings:
Scoop 1/6 of the oatmeal into a bowl and sprinkle with 2 2/3 tsp. of the slivered almonds.

Hi Jennifer,
Cook the 1C of oatmeal in 4 cups water. Let cool. Add 64g of PP for a total of 84gP(12 blocks, so the protein is all set(yes let it cool first)google and make your own decision.
NOW: To make everything 12 blocks you would need to add: 24F/16C=16t almonds/7/8C(14T) blueberries.
to make 6-2 block servings divide each addition by 6: 2.6t(or just shy of 3t) almonds/2.3T(almost 3T blueberries), to make 4-3 block divide by 4: 4t almonds/ 3 1/2T blueberries), to make 3-4 block divide by 3: 5.3t(or just over of 5t) almonds/ 4.6 (almost 5T blueberries)
You dont have to be exact, I would utilize the almost #'s. |
