Hi,  I'm new here and I have two little questions.
Why, when they have the same amount of carbs, is 1 peach a Block and 1/2 a nectarine a Block?
Also: why is a peach 1 Block when it has approx. 15 carbs per peach?

    Thank you so much

There is something of a silence in response to this question.
    Sue? Anyone? Help?

    Thanks

    Hi Lucy,

My thought is that it probably depends on the fruit size and glycemic load of the fruit in the resource that was used to develop the Zone food blocks.  Also, it's only insulin stimulating carbohydrate the is considered for Zone puropses.  Insulin stimulating carbohydrate is determined by subtracting the total fiber from the total carbohydrate (fiber does not stimulate insulin).  That 15 grams carbohydrate you found in a peach may include a few grams of fiber and/or may be a slightly larger peach.

There is no specific guide as to the amount of fruit per day.
However, if you are following the zone, then  all or most of your carbs are from vegetables and fruits: you are getting a lot of good healthy carbs, vitamins, minerals, etc.  And certainly plenty of fruit.

nikki, this will help you with serving sizes (click on Zone Food Blocks tab):

Keep in mind that more of your carbohydrates should come from vegetables than from fruit.

thanks a lot... I think then what I was doing is perhaps not right ..I was just having the veggies with my meal such as when preparing orzo or the zone pasta. I think what I am now understanding is that I should be eating this along with some fruit spread out between meals so I don't get hungry. I find myself starved when I get home from work & its between lunch & dinner time. I had some chickpeas as suggested in the guide book and that helped. I am trying to eat only what I got in my start upi kit...however, I guess I can prepare my own meals , I think. Also any thoughts if I can add a glass of wine with dinner??

    Thanks nikki!

A tip, make sure you eat the grocery additions together with a Zone 1-2-3 food.  You shouldn't eat a snack of fruit, chick peas, etc. all by itself.

Hi Nikki, The block guide I sent you to is for "Classic Zone" not "Zone Foods". Sorry for any confusion I may have caused. It sounds like you are eating zone food so Sue pointed you in the right direction of following the grocery additions

nikki, I also gave you the classic Zone food block guide in my earlier post in this thread.  Sorry, I was confused!  Here's the Grocery Additions Guide to use with the Zone foods (the Zone breads, cookies, pizzas, etc.):

Okay I think I 'm not sure if I am doing this right..I am on the 2 week fast track meal plan..so I eat only the foods that are sent to me. I think Sue, what you are saying is that I should not eat any fruit or chickpeas as an in between snack but add them to my meal...there is so much info & when I read all I find different & conflicting issues. So since I desperately need to loose atleast 10 lbs I think I'll just eat the food given. I have to say that I prepared the orzo with some black beans and tomatoes, cucumber, onion and dressed it with lemon...I ate all & it was one huge meal...my husband thought that I ate what 2 people should be eating! so this leads me to another question..should I eat all the meal that is suggested for dinner? I am sorry for asking so many questions & I hope I'm not being stupid..

I received this as a hard copy too, and I follow it religiously. I am not sure if I have to finish the whole meal...especially dinner as when you add all the veggies, beans (orso salad) it becomes a huge meal. I am starting my week 2...any suggestions??
Thanks for your time & help

    Hi nikki,

Yes, correct, you should not be eating a snack of fruit of vegetables all by itself.  This also goes for protein, fats and other condiments.  Eat them together with Zone foods.

Yes, eat the whole meal.  If the orzo meal is too much to get down at one time, eat the rest later, but eat it that sane day.  Your loss of maybe one pound, or maybe no loss at all are both appropriate for the first week.  If you've been eating carbohydrate foods by themselves between meals sometimes, this alone can be enough prevent fat loss because disrupts the hormonal balance that's needed in order to keep the body burning fat.  My suggestion is to give it a couple more weeks and see what happens.  Review the material the came with your order to be sure you haven't missed anything.  You haven't mentioned using Omega Rx or polyphenols, but both are very important parts of the plan.  You could also call Zone Labs to speak with one of the Zone 1-2-3 Plan counselors.  Also, the 1-2-3's of the Zone plan refer both to the proportions of the macronutrient balance in the Zone foods (that's the protein, carbohydrate and fat balance) and to the three key parts of the plan, 1. Zone Food, 2. Omega Rx, and 3.Polyphenols in the form of either Sea Health Plus or Polyphenol Plus.

    Here's some more helpful info:

Thanks Sue..yes I am doing all that the material provided directs. I am eating all the meal & adding veggies & fruits with the meal as directed. I am now on my second week of zone food sent to me. I will take your advice & call to speak to a zone counselor as I am not sure where I should go after this week. Also I was not sure about the Omega Rx & polyphenols...when I called to get started the lady just adviced me to purchase the quick 2 week food plan. Anyway I will ask them about these. I really appreciate your time & advice. I will follow up & keep you informed of hopegfully my success.
