DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND SMOOTHIE RECIPES??
I AM A NEWBY TO THE ZONE DIET. I AM A VERY ACTIVE WOMEN. I RUN 3-4 MILES AT LEAST 5 DAYS A WEEK. BUT MY EATING HABITS ARE NOT THAT GREAT. I AM EXCITED TO BE ON THE ZONE DIET, BUT I LOVE SMOOTHIES.

    THANK YOU IN ADVANCE..

    Hi sandra

There are smoothie recipes on this forum and also in the Zone books. I have the Zone Meal in Seconds which have a few.

ps - it is easier to read posts if they are in lower case.

    Sandra, here's a couple recipes:

    CC's base recipe:
    1/4 cup nonfat cottage cheese
    1/2 cup plain nonfat yogurt
    2 cup strawberries
    7g protein powder
    2 tsp olive oil

    Sue's Brownie Batter:
I'll add some specifics about the brands I like best in it for flavor and consistency, but no special brands are needed. It's a 3P, 2C, 5 F meal.

(tweaked to meet my needs of 3P, 2C, 5F, and to include inflammation lowering ingredients)

    Ingredients:
    1/5 frozen organic (OG) banana
1 generous block frozen OG dark cherries, about 1/3 cup or 12 big cherries (I use Cascadian Farms brand, and I've found that I can't stay in the Zone very well with this meal when I use other brands of cherries.)

1 huge heaping T cocoa raw powder, about 1/8 cup (not dutched, which means not treated with alkali)
3 blocks Zone Protein Powder (3 scoops)
1/2+ tsp. turmeric (refer to info in The Anti-Inflammation Zone)
a very generous amont of cinnamon (lowers insulin response)
a scant 1 tsp. alcohol free glycerin based almond flavoring
1/8 to 1/4 cup of chocolate soy milk, just to help it blend better (I use "West Soy Unsweetened Chocolate Soy Milk" because it has barely has 1g insulin stimulating C to each P block)
    1T Zone OG olive oil

    Directions:
Blend with an immersion blender, or process is a small food processor. Makes one very thick and delicious chocolaty breakfast and keeps me in the Zone very well (I'm carb sensitive). Sometimes I'll also add a tablespoon or two of plain yogurt.

To make it 3P, 3C and 3F, simply add another block of C (it can be some fruit on the side, so you don't mess with the texture of the smoothie; or anothe block of cherries) and use 2 teaspoons of oilve oil instead of the tablespoon. That said, it woudl also be fine to use the full tablespoon of olive oil for a little extra good fat in it.

You can also divide it into thirds thirds and freeze to eat for quick snacks (that makes three 1 block snacks with the same drop a carb and add fat adjustment).

There are others out there ... these are just two that I had bookmarked. Hope you enjoy!
    Happy Zoning!

I use Simply Whites by Bioplex, a powdered egg white protein powder. I really like it. It's all protein, one scoop is 3 blks.

What does "OG" mean? I assume it has something to do with the food being organic?

Karen posted my base recipe, and I also have it posted on a thread where I post some of my other recipes, too. Look under the cooking forum, scroll down for "Cranberrycat's Meals and Recipes" (or something like that, can't remember the exact name of that thread).

    Hi Cyndi!

I'm the Sue in Sue's Brownie Batter recipe. The type of protein powder you use can make a huge difference in the final result of the recipe you put it into. The other protein powders I've tried are Designer Whey, Zone Perfect, Jay Robb's (both their whey and their egg white powders), various different soy powders, Wild Oats protein powder and a rice protein powder. By far the best for taste, texture, ability to mix, and length of time I stay in the Zone, is Zone Labs Protein Powder. Everyone at my house loves it!

    Here's another!

It's a quick and chocolatey favorite breakfast I made up. I had it for breakfast today. :-)

    VANILLA-CACAO ZONE SHAKE

Shake together 1 Zone Vanilla Shake mix packet, 1 heaping tablespoon Navitas Naturals Cacao Powder (raw chocolate powder) and 1 cup of Westsoy Unsweetened Chocolate Soy Milk.

It's so thick it's more like pudding than a shake!

    Hi Deb!

Nope, no added fat. The Zone shake packet plus those specific brands of soy milk and cacao provide enough fat. Your brands may differ from mine, so I'd check the labels to be sure you have enough fat. I had it for breakfast again today!

Sue, have you ever tried vanilla protein powder with the brownie batter recipe? There is a brand on Amazon called 100% Whey Protein by Biochem that got some really good reviews. I tried the Zone powder before and didn't really like it. Although it might have been what I was trying to mix it with that just didn't work (I don't remember what recipes I used with the powder).

Also, I looked on the Zone website, but I can't seem to find the protein powder anymore. I want to check the nutrition label with the one on Amazon.

    Thanks!

You might also want to look at Jarrow Formulas Whey Protein Powder available from Swanson Vitamins.  I purchase the unflavored version:
2 lbs for $18 with 39 servings per 2 lb container = .46 cents per serving.
    23g - 1 heaping scoop - serving size:
    Fat: 2g (Sat1g)
    Sodium 42mg
    Potassium: 133mg
    Carbs: 2g  (Sugars 1g)
    Protein: 18g
Ingredients:  100% ultra-filtered whey protein from milk and lecithin (from soy).
    .
Nothing else added, just pure protein.  No chemicals, no artificial anything, no fillers, no flavorings, etc.

Not the batter recipe but my smoothie recipe.
And sometimes I just mix the protein powder with water and drink it.
It mixes very easily with cold water!
Very little taste, obviously some, but easily not tasted when mixed with other ingredients.

I forget the exact measurements, I have it typed up on a card on the side of the refrigerator.
I also researched blenders when my Braun finally gave in after years of use, and researched and researched, and finally found a good, powerful, non-leaking, ice-crushing, blender - Kitchen Aide.
    .
Start with partially thawed frozen strawberries and Maine blueberries.
Add about 1/4 - 1/2 cup plain, lo-Fat, organic *yogurt.
Add about 1/4 - 1/2 cup 2% organic milk or lo-fat Cottage cheese
    Add about 1 cup water.
Add about 2-3 blocks Jarrow Formula unflavored Protein Powder.
Add either EV Olive Oil, **Coconut Oil, Peanut Butter, Almond Butter, or Almonds - depends on my mood, for variety - different days.
    .
Again, you'll have to look at ingredients and figure quantities, I don't recall exact for each to make about 4 blocks.
    .
    * I read that yogurt and blueberries each work better, synergistically - when ingested together.
** Coconut Oil is NOT a Dr. Sears favorable Fat.  Though as much research as has been done, is much mis-aligned and as a Medium Chain Tropical fat is not quite the same as saturated fats. Dr. Sears has never directly addressed Coconut Oil (to my knowledge) and the new information discovered about it.
*** Some times, I'll add 1 raw, organic, range-free egg as part of Protein, also not a favorable food because of AA in egg yolk.  BUT other benefits of eggs, if not excessive, to me, has benefits.
**** Quantities of Milk, Yogurt, and Protein powder to add to about 4 blocks. If I use Cottage Cheese, I add more Blueberries to get additional Carbs.
***** On rare occasions, I've thrown in an apple (2 blocks) for Carbs - esp. since it is prime season now for apples in New England.

Mine was posted earlier (in 2009) but if you are interested, here it is:

    1/4 cup nonfat cottage cheese
    1/2 cup plain nonfat yogurt
    2 cup strawberries
    7g protein powder
    2 tsp olive oil

Actually kind of similar to John's, but I tend to use just strawberries, no water or milk, and generally don't veer from the base recipe except that I have adapted it to my carb sensitivity by decreasing the strawberries to 1 block and increasing the fat.

Zone protein powder is vanilla flavored.     You'll find it on this page.  http://www.zonediet.com/Shop/bars-a...-more.aspx  You can click on the ingredient link to read the ingredients.

Jennifer, I have used the whey protein powder from Biochem (vanilla) and I like it.  One thing that I really like about it is that it has very few ingredients on the list, and so I prefer using it over Zone's protein powder.

i'm doing the "classic" zone and here is a recipe that came from the book "a week in the zone", I made it yesterday and today, that's how much I LOVED it!!!

20g of protein powder (i use the vanilla flavor)
    1 cup strawberries
    1 cup blueberries
4 ice cubes ( I use 1/4 cup of cold water instead)

Put all ingredients into a blender and whip (or mix well).

If you want it to be less thick you can add some more water.

I love this..I am also thinking about dividing it up into thirds and freezing it for a cold healthy snack.

Yes, that works great. I have done that, actually frozen a batch into "popsicles" and then the kids have a nutritious and refreshing snack, too! I have not used that particular recipe, but I think any smoothie recipe would work nicely.

    Classic Zone... excellent choice!

Am I wrong thinking this receipe lacks fat blocks? I would use peanut butter or olive oil in the mixture.

I think you are right, that recipe is lacking fat. Might be an omission, I do think that the recipe in the book has olive oil in it.
