Hello all! I just tried making a 40-30-30 shake into more of an ice cream treat. I used a recipe from the book called "The Formula: A Personalized 40-30-30 Weight Loss Program" by Gene and Joyce Daoust. ( I actually used this book when I was first introduced to the 40-30-30 concept). I now use recipes from many books and on-line sites, etc. to stay in the zone (it's been a year now!, Yeah!) I'm just loving it. Anyway, I used the "Joyce's Almond Mocha Blended Latte" recipe from the fat flush snacks section of the book. It's about 2 blocks. I made it as suggested in the book and then tried putting it in a manual ice cream maker. It worked very well! It turned out to be the consistency of ice milk...not as creamy as ice cream (probably because of the lack of excess fat)...but delicious, none the less. There are a few more shake recipes in that book. I'm going to try them all out as ice cream treats and see how it goes...YUM! I don't have the book with me now but I could post the recipe another time if anyone is interested who does not already have that book. Happy Zoning! :D Starz

I have ice cream every other night for my late night snack. Some times I do one block or I save a block from dinner and make the late nighter 2 blocks. I use Bryers Natural Vanilla Light and mush it up with cottage cheese. I stick it back in the freezer for a couple minutes so that it hardens back up. Jim

Thank you for the posts!...I'll have to try the cottage cheese Breyer's recipe sometime! What % cottage cheese do you use with that one, jfsoonipi? Here's the Ice Cream recipe I spoke of in my post above: Almond Mocha Blended Latte--Ice Cream 1 cup Ice cubes 1/4 cup 1% milk 1/4 cup water 1 tsp. Decaf instant coffee 2 tsp. Cocoa powder, unsweetened 2 tsp. Almond butter 15 grams Pure whey protein powder 1 Tbsp. Granulated fructose Directions: Combine all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth. Then, to make into ice cream, put in an ice cream maker and "stir" until desired ice cream consistency. As ice cream, this turned out sort of like what I think of as ice milk. It's very tasty as a shake (skip the ice cream maker part) or as ice cream! Here's another great ice cream recipe I got from the old forums in a post from Anne-Marie: Flo's Ice Cream Snack 1/2 cup light Breyers ice cream (natural vanilla) 1/4 cup dry TVP (textured vegetable protein) 6-7 grams chocolate protein powder 1/2 tablespoon crunchy natural peanut butter Directions: Mix all ingredients together. It's a little hard to mix but well worth the effort. I found this recipe to be very good. I make some for my 5 year old daughter, occasionally and we call it healthy "crunchy ice cream". It's a great ice cream treat! Enjoy! starz :D

You guys who are brave enough to make your own deserve applause! I am wondering if anyone else has tried a commercial brand of ice cream called "Le Carb". It seems to be aimed at an Atkins-type market. It is made in Houston, and I buy it at Mother's markets. High in saturated fat, but seems to be good carb/protein balance, and sweetened with Splenda. Maybe it's OK for an occasional treat...? What does anyone think? dveej

The Atkins bar have the same amount of protein and carbs ie 20 grams protein, 20 grams carbs. The fat is about 10 grams. My favourites are the peanut butter chocolate, mocha almond crunch and chocolate coconut. Yum!! Hey Dveej, did you get my response to your e-mail??

I tried the LeCarb chocolate, and found the flavor a bit lacking, kind of one-dimensional. Haven't tried any other flavors. my $.02 Ronica Ever notice the cents symbol is no longer on the keyboard?

I've been making Flo's ice cream with Blue Bunny No Sugar Added. It's sweetened with splenda and I really like the flavor and texture. Sometimes I substitute almond butter if I don't want the peanut butter flavor and I vary the protein powder flavors too. Adding alcohol-free extracts like lemon or peppermint or ground cinnamon is another way to add some variety. Here's the adjusted recipe for 3 blocks (I usually eat half and save the rest for later) 3/4 cup Blue Bunny No Sugar Added 1/4 cup TVP 4.5g protein powder 1/4T peanut butter or 1/2t almond butter April

Sorry, I should have mentioned the recipe is for vanilla flavor Blue Bunny NSA ice cream only. I don't use the other flavors because the extra ingredients have to many carbs and trans-fats. April

Thank you so much for your tip re: adding the extracts, etc. to Flo's Ice Cream...I had been experimenting with the different flavors of ice cream with that recipe. But, thanks to your post, I just tried adding peppermint extract to the Flo's Ice Cream recipe and used ground almonds instead of peanutbutter. It was fantastic! Thanks again! :-)Donna (starz)
