I recently started paddling with an outrigger canoe club. Now that I have built up my endurance to start paddling with the race team, I'm getting a lot of 'advice' about what to eat and drink during race conditions. Typically we are on the water between 2 and 3 hours at a time. My current routine is to eat half a zone bar before and the other half after. I have a 2-liter hydration system, so I drink plenty of water during a session. My teammates all either put gatorade in their hydration system or add some kind of powdered supplement to their water (I'm not sure what it is). The other thing they use during a session is Goo (energy gel packets).
Any zone friendly suggestions on how I can increase my performance? Am I doing the right thing just sticking with the half/half bar and pure water?
