I like smoked or marinated and baked mackerel but it contains lots of fat. Is it allowed in the Zone?

Yes, mackerel contains omega 3 fats and is fine. If you buy one with added oils try to stick to olive oil, not omega 6 fats.

Thanks Sue. I occasionally buy this fish and then bake it. It is delicious, but amount of fat is some 23 grams or so. It is way over the recommended limit

100 grams of mackerel (almost 4 blocks) contains about 14 grams of fat, which would be fine. Make sure your brand doesn't have added fat.

I do not know if Mackeral is farm raised, but check and avoid.
Farm raised fish have reverse of desired Omega-3/Omega-6 ratios.
Farm-raised Salmon is the BIG culprit.
(Fortunately we also have a few restaurants in the area that also use wild-salmon and not farm-raised.)

The problem is that wild caught fish is not necessary available everywhere. Are yuo saying it is actually better not to eat fish at all if it is farmed? I hope it still give us health benefits...

The health benefits of eating fish come mainly from the omega 3 fats (EPA and DHA) it contains. Farmed fish contains more omega 6 fat than wild caught fish (because of the tye of diet the farmed fish are fed). Omega 6 fats, especially AA, cause inflammation at the cellular level and should be avoided as much as possible. IMHO eating farmed fish does not bestow health benefits, and a person would do best to avoid it altogether.
