I have a snack per my alternative health doctor of fat free Greek yogurt, blueberries, cinnamon and flax seed. I use about 1/2 cup of yogurt, 1/2 a cup of blueberries, a teaspoon of cinnamon and 1 tablespoon of flax seed, measured before I grind it. It seems like the flax seed would work as an oil and the yogurt and blueberries would make up the P and C of a block.
I'm learning blocks slowly as I am eating my meals with the eyeball method of low fat protein on 1/3 of my plate and favorable veggies on the other 2/3. Sometimes I add a few grapes or a few slices of orange as well. So I'm saying that my knowledge of blocks is really minimal yet and I'm wondering about my snack being balanced?

Hi and welcome to the forum!
That sounds pretty close to right. 1 T flax seed=3g fat.
If you want to get very picky, you would need to check the nutritional content of the yogurt, as each one really varies. The last one I got was about 1/4 cup for 1 block protein (ie: 7g) and very little carb. The one before was about 1/3 c for 1 block protein and about 1/2 block of carb.
But overall, it's a well-balanced snack!

Joy, I think it looks fine, too. As Xee mentioned, just watch the nutritional content on the specific brand of Greek yogurt that you use, as they do vary. |
