Is obtaining all of your day's protein requirements (16 daily blocks) from cottage cheese frowned upon because of it being a dairy product? On that note, are there any negatives to obtaining all of your protein in a given day from one food (such as cottage cheese)....or obtaining all of your carbs in a given day from one food (such as black beans)? I haven't written in a while but I began my Zone diet in Jan 2009 and lost 36 pounds within 3 months and better yet have kept it off. The only time I strayed was the holidays last year (and into the new year 2010) where I gained 7 pounds over ten or so days but within 3 weeks was back to my goal weight. Beyond that I've never varied by more than 2 or 2.5 pounds, which says a whole lot about the Zone Diet. Sue K - I laughed out loud when I was going through some other posts where you revealed that you live in Vernon. Five years ago my wife and I moved from Vernon where we lived on a street within half a mile or so near the tunnel that gives Tunnel Road its name. There is a great biking/walking trail above the tunnel that we loved. But we now live in the beautiful state of NC and have never regretted it. Congratulations on your second grandchild.

Side Note: We moved from Charlotte, NC to NH. And I love New England!
The only town I would consider in NC, if I had to move back is Asheville, NC.
It is just too warm most of the year - to each their own - enjoy.
Lots of good white water rafting available in NC.

    Glenn,

Congrats on your excellent Zone results and I wish you continued success!

Thanks!  Little Jamie is coming home from the hospital this morning.   He's been in the NICU for 10 days.  As I type this, I'm sitting here in Maryland with my 2 year old grandson on my lap (he's helping me type...ha).  We're waiting for Mommy, Daddy and his new baby brother to arrive home.  You have to be 3 years old to go visit the NICU, so he hasn't seen his little brother in person yet.   It's a very exciting day here!

Oh wow, small world!  We were neighbors!  My street's off Tunnel (through the tunnel, on the left just after curve at top of the hill...not Old Stone, the next one).  I'm sure you've already figured it out from this this info.  I'm just a few houses before Echo Ridge Dr.   My kids all went to Lake Street School.  I've lived in Vernon my whole life.  Love it!   I've been walking/running that very Rails to Trails stretch almost every day since it was completed 16 yrs ago.  Absolutely beautiful scenery!  I've probably passed by you on the trail and said hi!  Actually, my house is about 1/4 mile up over the hill on the other side of the cliffs you come to on the trail after passing Valley Falls.  They recently added a Rails to Trails "Rockville Spur" a few years ago.  It starts near Vernon Depot, goes over the water at Tankeroosen, under the I-84, over Route 30, behind Center Road, up past the back of RHS and on into Rockville.

One downside of limiting it to one carbohydrate food is you'd be depriving yourself of a variety of vitamins, minerals and polyphenols (they're antioxidants and some are also anti-inflammatories).  Also, if you're eating lots legumes, keep in mind they have a higher GL than most of the favorable veggies.  This means you probably won't be lowering your insulin levels as much as you could be if you were eating a variety of low density veggies.  My tip, keep the bigger picture in mind in the back of you mind.  It's not only about the weight loss.

    Have a great day Glenn!

Sue - we were on Rainbow Trail! I know exactly where Echo Ridge Dr is. And you're right we must have seen you at one point! Great to hear the progress on Jamie. Good point about the limiting. I love veggies, it's just that I prefer to steam them rather than microwave them, so sometimes I'm definitely gravitate toward the faster meal prep on most days. John - Funny you should say that, my wife and I just returned from Asheville for our ten year anniversary trip that includiding visiting the Biltmore Estate. Asheville is AWESOME. Incredibly vibrant and reminded me a bit of San Franscisco's energy.

Rainbow, oh wow.  Part of our "back yard"  (8 wooded acres between Rainbow and Echo Drive) backs up to the houses on the outer side of the loop part of Rainbow.

    Jamie's home and doing fantastic.
