I am just starting the Zone today. I had 2 blocks for breakfast. I would like to know if what I ate was accurate to the zone. 1 egg 2 egg whites 1/3 c oatmeal dry 1/2 c grapes 1/3tsp butter 1 T half and half I am not used to eating so many carbs while trying to lose, but I am so sick of battling back and forth between losing and gaining. Due to strict diets. The Zone seems to be very balanced.

    Hi Michelle,

That's a good start.  Here are a couple tips.  Try to keep egg yolk to a minimum, because it is rich in arachidonic acid (AA).  AA increases inflammation.  In the Zone, the goal is to decrease inflammation.  Also, your breakfast contained too much carbohydrate; 1/3 cup cooked (not dry) slow cooking steel cut oats would be 1 carbohydrate block.  Oat groats (the whole kernel) would also be fine. Polled oats, instant oats, and oat flour are all unfavorable carbohydrate.  Remember not to use unfavorable carbohydrate for more than 25% of all the carbohydrate in a meal.

Thanks so much Sue. Also, I have seen Zone bars in the diet nutrition isle at my drugstores. Are they permissible for me. Would they count as a meal?

    Hi,

Zone Labs bars are not sold in stores.  You may have seen another brand whose name contains the word Zone and has a logo the looks similar to that of Zone labs.  Dr. Sears does not endorse those foods.

You can buy the real Zone Labs bars here.  http://www.zonediet.com/Shop/BarsAn...-bars.aspx
