I'm somewhat concerned about microwaved pizza; if I can bake it, I'll eat it, but I've sworn off microwaving those lean cuisine pizza box things that have the grey plastic/paper, you just know that isn't good for the body. Otherwise, I could see myself adding variety; I would really suggest they consider a 3 block size lunch portion too!!! Do they have a date when it can be ordered? |

Hi Steven, I don't know any more than what I read in the article. I'd assume you could bake them in the oven too. I don't use plastics in the microwave either. In fact, I hardly even use the microwave. |

From the article it says More importantly, the lifetime of the protein in the digestive system is much longer, giving unique hormonal effects.
“The hormonal benefits will begin once you start eating this pizza. In particular, hormonal signals are sent to the brain from the intestine that tell you to stop eating,” she said. “Essentially Zone pizza can be considered ‘weight-loss’ pizza since after one or two pieces of the new Zone pizza you have no hunger for the next four to six hours.” How is the protein specially blended to formulate this long digesting life span? Is it altered in any form? Is this the same protein technique in all of the Zone foods that i eat in the custom pack? |

Hey Sue; . I am sure they can answer, at least his second and third Qs: "Is this the same protein technique in all of the Zone foods that I eat in the custom pack?" & "Is it altered in
any form?"

It's not cheap supporting the constant pizza making at my house lol. there's the all natural, no sugar sauce, then the 2% Mozz, and add to that Turkey Pepperoni & Portobello mushrooms and my Pizza support budget is probably $15/week lol. This will help eliminate that extra food from the grocier and get it all in there, together from the start, for a great meal. I'll just need to top it off with the obligatory jalapenos and i'll be set! |

Steven, if you have access to a Trader Joe's try this. All are TJ's grocery additions, and much less exepnsive than you're paying. This would also be relatively inexpensive with any brands you choose, even if you use ones without undesireable additives.
Ingredients
1 Zone Pizza crust (frozen works fine, no need to thaw)
1 heaping teaspoon TJ's crushed garlic (easiest to use it from a jar)
several heaping tablespoons of TJ's Bruschetta (if the tomato chumks are too large, cut them smaller with a kitchen scissors)
a few grinds of the pepper mill (black pepper)
3 or 4 TJ's Greek Jumbo Pitted Greek Kalamata Olives, cut lengthwise into 3-5 wedges each (the scissors again)
1 teaspoon or two of finely grated parmesan
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 450.
2. Spread pizza crust with crushed garlic and then add the rest of the toppings in the order listed.
3. Place on a shelf positioned in the middle of the oven and bake 6 minutes (time might differ by oven).

My pizza's are pretty fancy I guess, 1/2c sugar free marinara, 1/4c shredded mozzarell, 6 slices turkey pepperoni, 1/2c potobello's, 1/4c jalapeño with spices and olive oil. I eat them for a five block meal with extra protein to gain LBM, which so far has helped me gain 4lbs of new LBM! I like to eat this way on lifting days or school days. It's a filling meal that I take usually before going to my three hour GMAT class in M & F and it is guaranteed to keep my mind satisfied. There is no Trader Joe in Houston btw |

Hi all -- I'm on the hunt for canned tomatoes (diced, sauce, etc.) and pasta sauces that have no sugar added -- we don't have a Trader Joe's here in Tampa (arrgghhh), but we do have Whole Foods. I find that the Pomi brand is the lowest in sugar (they're the ones that come in a box). Do you have any other suggestions?
Thanks!

I get my sauce at Kroger in the coolers near juices. It's called "Buitoni" and they have excellent Alfredo light, light pesto, garlic merineara & even a great Vodka sauce, all which zone well in Fusilli or Orzo. I also love Aribba hot roasted salsa from Kroger for a mexipizza every so often |

Thanks Steven! I've seen the Buitoni sauces in my local supermarket -- I'll definitely check them out. I love salsa on my soy/veggie burgers, so that Arriba one sounds good.

Steven, a tip about Buitoni Vodka Sauce and Llight Alfredo Sauce. When I began eating Zone fusilli last year I checked them out and passed on them because they contain modified food starch and corn starch, two very unfavorable carbohydrates for the Zone. |

hey sue, thanks for letting me know. I think thought that the net carb impact, <5g with 1/3c serving, it minute compared to the carb content of the full packet of Orzo and Fusilli. Because of this, I've not found these to knock me out of the zone. |

You're welcome! Good that you're on top of it re your needs. Part of the reason I posted that info was also to let the more carbohydrate sensitive readers know about it, the ones like me who aren't able to handle high density carbohydrates. |

A good alternative to a jarred or canned sauce is to just make your own. I prefer to use crushed tomatoes or tomato puree. I don't recall the brand, but most of the time I can find one without too many additives without going to a specialty food store. |

Thanks Cran -- actually, that was what I was asking about -- canned tomatoes for making my own sauce. So far, the brand that seems "purest" is the Pomi brand (1/2 C = 20 cal, 0 g fat, 4 g carb, 3 g fiber, 1 g protein). Just wondering if there were any others out there.

Laurie, I don't use canned tomatoes very often, but when I do I buy Nature's Promise, an organic store-brand that's relatively inexpensive as organic foods go. It's available at Stop & Shop and Giant in the Northeast an Mid-Atlantic states. I'll also pick up just about any brand that's on sale. I haven't really ever had trouble finding canned tomatoes without sugar added. |

Hi all,
Isn't this article stating they are selling pizzas in mexico? I am happy for them but when are they going to sell them in the US? I know they sell them on the website but it would be better to just be able to go to the store and pick it up. Even Cedar Lane I e-mailed a question to them and they never responded to me. |

We (Southern NH) will get into the single digits tonight or tomorrow night before warming up to a high in the upper 30's (maybe even as high as 40 degrees F) on Saturday - just in time for my next Fall (Winter) hike on Saturday. Of course the mountains will be much colder, plus the added wind chill. (Now where's that new winter down packable jacket I bought myself for Christmas?)

Does Cedarlane still make Zone pizza?
I recall trying their pizza a few years ago when it was available in stores. It was very good, and I don't recall having any problems with it, other than cooking (oven only, didn't do as well in the microwave). |

BUMMER! I liked their items, although difficult to find in stores. And, the only way to order the zone products was in bulk (couldn't order a "few" things).
I really think that they could have made that work with better marketing. |
