I have tried everything, and I suck at losing weight!I just ordered my first 2 weeks of products to introduce me to the Zone diet. Which books do you recommend that you find to be the easiest and most thorough (since there are a lot of books out there)?

The whole reason for me to start this diet, is because I want to lose 20 lbs before becoming pregnant. From what I read, this is something I can do while I am pregnant, and I plan on discussing this with my doctor. Does anyone have experience with pregnancy and the Zone diet?

    Thank you!

Oh and my husband is incredibly supportive and would like to do this with me (although he doesn't have any weight to lose). However, he suffers from a gluten allergy, and I haven't found much information on how to proceed.

Mel, to address your first post, I loosely followed the Zone when I was pregnant. Not to lose weight, but just to keep my carbs in the form of healthy carbs and balance out with protein and fat, as I was battling gestational diabetes. I was still able to gain weight, just at a more healthy pace. And, I was able to control my blood sugars and keep them at acceptable levels.

I don't think your husband would be able to tolerate the Zone 1-2-3 products, because I believe the products contain gluten.

    Hi Mel,

You can expect it to work this time, because simply stated, the Zone works. You can also expect this to be like nothing you've ever done before. The Zone is awesome, whether you use the Zone Fast 1-2-3 plan or classic Zone meals. I've been practicing the Zone diet and lifestyle for 15 years and it's changed my life. I lost 100 pounds during the first two years, with plate dividing method, and I've since switched to the 1-2-3 plan. The most thorough and up-to-date Zone book is "Toxic Fat". I highly recommend it. If you purchased the ZoneFast 1-2-3 program, it's very easy. This Grocery Additions page gives all the details you'll need (the info will come with you order): http://www.zonediet.com/GroceryAddi...fault.aspx

If you're doing classic Zone meals you can find all the info to get started here: http://www.zonediet.com/Tools/Quick...fault.aspx

Your husband can easily do the Zone with classic Zone meals and stay gluten free. If he's eating classic Zone and you're eating ZoneFast 1-2-3 there's no need to make 2 separate meals. Whoever dose the cooking would make a little more than he needs to eat in a meal, and you would take the extra as the additions to your 1-2-3 meals.

Dr. Sears' recommendation for pregnant women is to increase each meal by one balanced block of P, C, and F. For the average woman, this translates into eating the amount or food recommended for the average man on the Zone diet. Also make sure to drink plenty of water, and take Omega Rx fish oil. My daughter is pregnant, in her 8th month, with her second child. She basically eats in the Zone (the plate dividing method) and she's doing great. She also takes Omega Rx.

I'll be happy to help if you have questions. I'll be away for the next couple of weeks, but I'll still be checking in here now and then.

    Good luck!

Thanks Sue! I picked up the Toxic Fat book from the library, and have started to read it. I should be getting the food tomorrow, but I will make sure to pick up the groceries as well.

I'm still terrified that I will fail, but I suppose that is normal!

Oh, I do have a question! What if your meal plan has something that you don't like? For me, I don't like cottage or ricotta cheese or tuna.

The meal plan is a suggestion. Add in a similar substitute.
In this case an equivalent amount of protein.

    Hi Mel,

No need to be terrified because the Zone works. :-)

As John said, just substitute an appropriate Zone favorable food the you like (substitute protein for protein, carbohydrate for carbohydrate andfat for fat).

    Have fun! :-)

    Great thank you!

I just finished most of the Toxic Fat book, and I am a little confused about the fish oil. Is this something I can purchase at a local vitamin store or is it only through this website? I am currently taking a DHA/EP supplement, but I am not sure if it is adequate.

Thank you again for helping my dramatic self!
