Well, with a little planning my wife and I survived the White Water school we went to this weekend (both Zone food wise and water-wise!). She in a solo canoe, and me in a river-runner/play kayak. . We initially had a hotel closer to the Sugar river Class II run on Sunday, but found out it did not have a refrigerator nor one available for the room. So we switched reservations to another hotel, closer to the lecture / on-river training portion of the school held on Friday/Saturday. Fortunately it is mud season in NH, so not much activities going on in-between winter/Spring events, and last minute reservations were not a problem. . Managed to plan and prepare simple, yet zone friendly breakfasts for the two mornings. (Also saved us time and we were able to sleep-in later than most that chose the nearby pancake restaurant for breakfast - yuk). I made our lunches on Friday afternoon, before we left - and packed all other foods for breakfast in-room. (Lunch is often eaten on-river.) . Dinner, Friday evening was the challenge. Not many places to eat. Closest two were a Mexican restaurant and a steakhouse. Steakhouse was on the pricey side, and who wants to pay $16.00 for a piece of steak at 14oz or more of protein? . We managed to stay within a very reasonable $ budget eating a small cup of healthy soup, a salad, some chille, and some veggies on the side, and skipped the desert. . Filling and satisfying. We also had some bars along for the pre-river put-in (mid-morning) snack. Dinner Saturday was a breeze, as there was a full selection cooked by the volunteers for us. Turkey and plenty of broccoli and salad and with the pre-dinner orderves (sic?), as well. |
