I don't mind if the drop-down deals menu drops down and block my view from what I'm reading once or twice. We gotta sell and all that ... and I understand.

But when it drops down something like a dozen times or more in the span of five minutes as I wander all over the website, reading various stuff, forcing me to manoeuvre around the drop-down menu in order to read the webpage , I get annoyed.

I keep clicking on it to get it to go back up out of the way, and it then drops down again several seconds again, and then again, and then again ...

I do not understand this ...

Sarah, I know what you are talking about; however, I never encounter them on Dr. Sears / Zone web pages.
Capture the URL (web Address) when it occurs and send it to Tech as suggested.

I've seen these on other sites but never on any of the Zone Labs websites. Sarah, maybe try noticing whether you have multiple windows of reduced size open and showing on the screen next time this happens. Possibly it could be popping up (or dropping down) from one of those. You could try maximizing this page to cover your entire screen to see if that might remedy the problem while reading this website.

    Hi Tech Person,

The Drop-down Deals is shaped like a ribbon, it covers 2/3 of the height of the webpage, and is very narrow. Probably 2 inches when my webpage is expanded.

(It still gets in the way of my reading anyway. )

It drops down right beneath the search engine (zonediet.com) with the magnifying glass icon.

Two very short columns says Coupons and Compare respectively.

The rest of the ribbon says "10-20% off with AutoShip Program," "see EXCLUSIVE Deals" "See Grocery Coupons" and finally, "drop down deals" (sic) with a little white arrow that allows you to snap the "ribbon" back into place.

John said to record the URLs, so here goes ...

    http://www.zonediet.com/forums/aft/61863

I will be wandering all over after this to record various URLs as well that has the drop down ribbon ...

    Hi Sue,

I normally maximize my webpages and it's still happening.

I do not understand this ... especially as everyone else is NOT having this problem ...

I am using Firefox, Windows 7, on an Acer laptop ...

    Hi Sarah,

I misunderstood the word "deals". I thought maybe you were getting pop-ups for products from other websites.

"deal drop downs" . It is in no way Zone Labs. You may want to check your google settings or maybe your Friefow seetings.. Sounds like there is some type of cookie or internet tag that is tracking your interest and giving up ad drop-downs related to searches you do.

Hope you can get that cleared up..

    Thanks, Sue. Appreciate it.

Hi Tech Support, thanks for your advice. I will eventually follow up on it.

I confess that I found this pretty confusing initially, as I clicked on the "10-20% off with AutoShip Program" and it transferred me to this location:

    http://shop.zonediet.com/custom/pro...5155658094

So I concluded, it`s one of Zonediet.com's marketing strategies, and zonediet.com only ... and I thought you were just not aware of this feature of zonediet.com.

BUT ... it began to dawn on me what was really going on, because ...

I kept exploring, not because I was interested in buying at this particular time, but because I was confused by what everyone was saying.

I tried the two tabs on the ribbon, for example.

    “Coupons” got me nowhere. Nothing.

But “Compare” says in the ribbon itself:

    ----Brad Geddes-Advanced Google Adwords

----Steven Hansen – Touching the Monkey:

----David Sadava, May R Berenbaum, David M.

---- Each of these have a price tackled on.

    Etc ...

So these are NOT zonediet, it turns out, you are right!

Wow. I'm reasonably Internet-savvy, but, whomever did this was so good at it, it took me a couple of weeks AND this forum thread (which ate up time on my and other people's parts) to understand that this pop-up window wasn`t part of zonediet`s marketing strategy ...

I was SO annoyed with Zonediet.com but it wasn`t zonediet.com`s fault!

    Anyway.

MY problem is getting it off MY laptop.

ZONEDIET's problem is having people getting annoyed at zonediet when it's someone else who dun it.

Frankly, and this is my opinion, it's probably in Zonediet's own best interest to do something about this particular ribbon since it's happening across the board, points back to Zonediet itself, and tricks people into thinking it's part of Zonediet's marketing strategy unless they explore further as I did.

If it were my website, I'd do something about it ...

    Hi Sarah,

I'm definitely not an IT genius, but I'd say try deleting your cookies.

Ok. I deleted everything that could be stored, including cookies ...

I deleted everything from the very beginning of the browser's own history.

The stupid drop down deals is still there.

I'm furious ... and I don't like the attitude of, "It's your problem, not mine."

The fact is, it's not just my problem, it's ZoneDiet's problem too!

And I want to add I do get junk pop-up windows, but they're not persistent like this one is!!!

    This drives me nuts ...

Anyway. I don't know what else to do now ... any suggestions?

MALWARE BYTES - a free program to clean and remove.
    Be very careful.
It is NOT another anyivirus program.
You should only have ONE antivirus program.
    .
And, after your system is cleaned, and to keep them out, I use two programs:
SpyWare Blaster and SpyBot Search and Destroy.
You might consider installing Spybot S&D first and running - you might not need Malware Bytes.
    .
I have used these two programs for years..
    .
Also, does your anti-virus program have a Pop-Up Blocker?
    .
Sorry, this is not necessarily Zone nor Zone IT's problem .....
(Malware can be very cleverly written to hijack websites you frequent a lot,
    as this sounds like .....

    Sarah,

I wish I could be of more help, but I am not a techie kind of person, and would probably be just as frustrated as you are, if it were happening to me.

I hope that someone from the Zone web support staff can assist you and give you some suggestions. Sounds like John has some good advice, too (he knows his stuff).

Are you still having this issue? I did a quick search on this drop down deals thing and I found its website - dropdowndeals.com. It looks like it's free coupons for different stores online. I would suggest looking at the support section for some info. Maybe that will help? They have how it work info which shows what was described earlier and they even include how to disable the drop down deals menu. Hopefully this helps.

    Cool!
Here is their uninstall instructions (from their website):
    .
How do I uninstall Drop Down Deals?
    .
If there's a single piece of functionality you no longer want, but still want to use others, consider disabling only the specific Layers App individually.
    .
Uninstall from Internet Explorer, Firefox or Google Chrome (PC): Go to the Windows Start Menu and then to Control Panel > Add/Remove ("Programs & Features" in Vista/Windows 7) and click "Remove" next to 'Yontoo Layers'.
    .
Uninstall from Firefox or Google Chrome (Mac): In the top menu, go to Tools > Add-ons.
Select the Yontoo Layers logo and then click Uninstall.
Note: You cannot uninstall from PC with these steps, see instructions above for PC.

Hi Cranberry, thanks for your understanding. I feel better ...

Hi John, thanks for all of this information, I'm implementing it this weekend. And it does sound from what you say that it's not across the board, e.g., not happening with many viewers, and you know, I did at one time start looking around for coupons online, but I confess, I cannot for the life of me remember actually giving permission for the drop-down deal "ribbon" to happen, and it only happens on this website. But I have the necessary information now, I apprecaite it.
