Hey again? This question is directly to Cranberry Cat and Sue? Optional feedback's from others are welcomed as well! Before I make a final decision I want to purchase the best product out there? Now Cranberry in your perspective you would not recommend Sea Health Plus cause the fruits and veggies will give us most the nutrients we need. Sue, your household is currently consuming Sea Health and from what I read through other forums you've had excellent feedback I presume! K long story short; my point is I want to reach optimal health! Why you two contradict on this issue regrading Sea Health? There is no animosity between you two nor myself! I would like to any feedback from you two whether its negative or positive and what you would highly recommend? In conclusion I want to make the best decision possible to pursue optimal health! Thanks... |

Richard, I don't think Sea Health Plus is a bad product, and I have no problem with it if you have the money to spend, and want insurance. But, as for myself, I feel that the best source of polyphenols is from our diet. I don't really believe in taking supplements in place of eating nutritious food. Here is a quote from Barry Sears: “Polyphenols are the phytochemicals that not only give fruits and vegetables their color, but also help regulate inflammation.* In addition, polyphenols also activate the key enzyme (AMP kinase) that helps restore cellular ATP levels.* Polyphenols also help regulate the activation of inducible inflammatory proteins (such as COX-2 and inflammatory cytokines).* There are more than 4,000 known polyphenols, and the richest sources are fruits and vegetables. In general, the more color a fruit or vegetable has, the richer the polyphenol content.” So, if we are truly eating a Zone Diet and partaking of those foods found on the low density favorable carb list, we should be meeting that goal! Perhaps, if you don't feel that you eat a rainbow of veggies and fruits, then you may benefit from the supplement. |

Hi Richard! I highly recommend Sea Health Plus. I consider it to be one of the foundations of my family's Zone lifestyle, along with Omega Rx, Eico Rx, and Dr. Sears Zone Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The polyphenols in Sea Health Plus were chosen specifically because in addition to being antioxidants they are also anti-inflammatories (not all polyphenols are anti-inflammatories). Yes, Sea Health Plus is consumed daily at my house. As for me, I usually drink an ounce in a shot glass a couple of times a day. When traveling I use Dr. Sears Zone Polyphenol Plus for convenience (small capsules). I feel very fortunate to have access to a product such as Sea Health Plus, and I consider it to be of great benefit whether you are eating the Zone diet or not. I have friends who've also been using it for a long time and they feel the same as I do about it. The best possible way to achieve optimal health, in my opinion, is to follow strict adherence to all the principles of the Zone diet and lifestyle and to take advantage of the excellent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant products that Zone Labs has to offer. I haven't found a line of products that compares to theirs. They are a cut above others. |

Hi again Richard!
Forgot to mention this. Sea Health Plus is excellent to take together with your fish oil dose. It helps with absorption of fish oil. In TOXIC FAT, Barry Sears' newest book, he describes "The Fish Oil Shooter", a combination of liquid polyphenol supplement and fish oil in a tequila glass. |

Well, basically, the biggest problem that I have with SHP is that IF we are truly following strict adherence to all the principles of the Zone Diet and lifestyle, we would NOT need to take such a supplement, because we would be getting polyphenols from the variety of fruits and veggies that we eat. The lifestyle is anti-inflammatory, the food is anti-inflammatory. BTW, I would not consider taking anyone else's product, either. Sears himself wrote that food is our medicine. |

Sue, I had asked this question in a different thread, but I feel it is appropriate here. What time of day and do you take it Before a meal? I have been taking it with the meal and someone said, I should take Sea Health and Eico Before the meal. Please help! <img src='desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/smile.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Smile' align='absmiddle'> |

Hey Rich! I forgot this. About the Fish Oil Shooter, Dr. Sears wrote that you can also add an ounce of extra virgin olive oil to it if you want, to dilute the taste of the fish oil. |

Rich, glad to be your Zone mom! (he he) Advice, I have tons; just ask. :-)
Be good to yourself by practicing the entire Zone lifestyle. As for the Zone diet itself, you'll have the best results by keeping your focus on insulin control and inflammation lowering when you choose foods. Choose foods you love! Eating should be fun. My advice to all is to only eat food that you really like. Be willing to try new foods, and let go of those that are dragging you down. Give your Zone diet time to evolve. Make it you own, and use your expanding Zone knowledge to make it really work for you. Don't be afraid to experiment, within Zone boundaries.
Dr. Sears Zone bars, IMO, there are no viable substitutes in grocery stores. You can try them, but most likely your body will pay a price.

Hi Sue, Very interested by your comments about taking "higher" amounts of SeaHealth Plus. Under what circumstances would someone take more than the standard 2 tbsp and what are the tangible benefits? Is it safe? Also, could it all be taken in one dose? I just started taking SeaHealth Plus and am following the directions on the bottle for 2 tbsp (1 oz.). Right now I'm taking 5g (8 capsules) of OmegaRX and plan to be at 7.5g by the end of this month. I plan to introduce the EicoRX next month and hope to be taking 7.5g of OmegaRX plus 2.5g of EicoRX by the end of July (thanks again for your earlier input about EicoRX btw). All capsules. I don't think I'll need extra SeaHealth Plus just to emulsify the FO. However, anything that can contribute to energy, mental alertness and overall vitality is a particular interest. Ideally my new diet would include a large variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. However, with my long work days, 3 small children and an aversion to the kitchen and cooking, I have to be realistic; I need a large amount of convenience to get and stay in the zone. Please let me know what you think. Thanks, Phil |

Hi Phil! Re your 3 qns: 1. No special circumstances. You can read about the benefits here: http://www.zonediet.com/POLYPHENOLS...fault.aspx As for "tangible benefits" may differ among individuals. For me, I feel great so I'll continue with SHP. 2. Yes. 3. I don't see why not, but I don't know if there is any advice not to. I drink usually drink the suggested amount, a capful, a couple times a day. Don't expect SHP to make up for not eating lots of veggies. Re convenience, small kids, aversion to the kitchen, etc. Realistically, when the whole family eats the same way, same foods, it becomes much easier. We've always done it that way here at our house. Trial and error is the way to figure it out. Keep us updated! |
