The lame stream media is starting to get it right.
Our local news (an ABC affiliate) reported this evening on a new study.
It appears that the Mediterranian diet, of which the Zone is a subset of, but with specifics and more details,
is now found to be much healthier than the long held SAD (the Standard American Diet) low-fat diet.
In fact one researcher was so surprised that he commented,
"If this was a drug it would be a BLOCKBUSTER!"

Bet they didn't make any reference to Dr. Sears and the Zone. He should be getting so much press because he has been so ahead of the curve on all of this. It makes me crazy.😜

Take a look at Berry's opinion here. Basically he states it's (Mediterranean) a good diet, but a poorly executed study.

Typo Alert, lol! That's "Barry" not Berry. (Sorry Barry!) :)

I see that Barry posted about this study in his health blog. His opinion on the study was surprisingly quite negative! I was just reading it and posted a comment (but unfortunately I can't see my comments nor any of the others).
Barry was critical about the study and how it was executed. I don't know if he read the study or not (I'm sure he did...), but his impression makes it sound like there were no meaningful results at all. However, the study actually states that there was a substantial reduction in the number of major cardiovascular events in the 2 groups who added nuts or olive oil to their diets. Barry made a big deal out of the fact that the control group was to follow a low-fat diet, but that they were unable to adhere to it. However, the study suggests that this group was "counseled" on a low-fat diet, and does not suggest that they were supposed to adhere to an ornish diet (as Barry suggested in the blog, which is a severely low-fat diet of about 10% fat). So, I don't know why Barry is being so critical of the control group, when the study was not actually designed to be that way in the first place.
I don't believe that this study was a poor one, at all. In fact, I think that we should celebrate the success. They are finally "getting it". The medical community will read the study and will begin to recommend a Mediterranean Diet to their patients. Mainstream media will also tell the public to start eating more olive oil and nuts. This is a POSITIVE step in the right direction toward anti-inflammatory health.
