I was wondering why everyone here uses the Zone diet instead of simple calorie counting without attention to macronutrient ratios. Personally, I am trying the Zone because I have hypothyroidism; since my weight struggles are hormonal in nature I thought it would make sense to try a diet which approaches weight loss from a hormonal perspective.
What about everyone else? I am not asking what is good about the Zone, I am asking why you personally decided on it <img src='desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/smile.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Smile' align='absmiddle'>

Hi Erica!
15 years ago I was doing the Zone diet and living the Zone lifestyle without realizing it was the Zone, simply by having changed my eating and exercise habits after a lot of reading and research into my concerns (concerns at the time: weight loss and achieving optimal health). I'd already lost a substantial amount of my excess weight when I was first introduced to the Zone and realized that what I was doing was actually the Zone Diet. My experiences up to that time are what sealed the deal for me re the Zone. When I read my first Zone book, I already knew the Zone worked, because I'd been doing it very successfully for many months.

I have struggled with the fear of diabetes, having had gestational diabetes for all of my pregnancies. I am at a higher risk of developing diabetes, and so I feel that the Zone helps me maintain control over my blood sugar. I hope to avoid diabetes altogether!
