Hi all, I've been on Zone diet now for two months and doing great. My blood sugar has stabilized and I've lost weight slow and steady.
But I've noticed my skin is very dry on arms, legs etc. Not itchy or blotchy just looks very dehydrated?..but I've been drinking eight glasses of water every day. I'm getting all of my carbs from fruit and veggies- I'm not doing flour or other grains because my insulin sensitivity is still touchy even in the right proportions. Any ideas why my skin is drier on this diet and do I need to add vitamin supplement?
    Thanks

Are you taking any fish oil? If not, then this may improve if you start taking it.

If you're not already taking Omega Rx it would be a great addition (4-8 capsules daily) especially considering your dry skin. Taking Sea Health Plus with it will enhance the absorption of the fish oil. It will take about 4 weeks to reach the full effect of the Omega Rx dose.

Desiree: There could be many reasons for dry skin, i.e., dry air from winter weather or heating systems, soap, long hot showers/baths, applying lotions to dry skin (should be damp), medications, clothing, silent inflammation, change in diet, etc. Dr. Sears suggests that for general good health supplement with 2.5g/d of the long chain omega 3’s EPA and DHA. That’s 4 OmegaRx capsules per day.
Some individuals when losing weight also release AA (arachidonic acid) which may cause dry skin. More info on AA is at:

OmegaRX and Seaheath Plus is a great combo for your over all wellness.

If I'm releasing AA is that a good thing, or does that mean my body is getting temporary inflammation ?

Its a good thing, and actually fairly temporary. AA contributes to inflammation, and if your body is releasing it, you are getting rid of inflammation (putting it simply).

    Thanks for clarifying.
I'll get some fish oil and start slow. My sister went on it and had some bowel issues.....

You should eat or take Omega. You could also eat fish, avocados, walnuts, vegetable oil, eggs, and more. They can give benefits for your body and help lessen the drying of your skin.

Omega-3 fatty acids can help strengthen cell walls. This will help your skin hydrated, soft, and supple.

Desiree, I too have that problem with The Zone. After taking Omega's for about a month I noticed that my arms are no longer flaky and some of the other dry areas are becoming softer.
