My weight loss has been a blessing.  However, what's really got my mind buzzing lately is the obvious age loss that has followed.  My skin has been tightening & brightening everywhere as my circulation, health and overall chemistry improve so greatly. I firmly believe that I've gone from being a 32 yr old who looked & felt like 38, to a 32 yr old, who feels & looks 27 again, a miraculous decade of rejuvenation !  I've usually had a younger appearance than my age, at least with a clean shave, and now that is back for the first time since turning 30.

Another reason to stay in the Zone, and the best reason yet to do it for the rest of my life hopefully!

I am 46 but most people would not guess that at all. I feel like I should be in my late 30's--but I don't know how that feels because when I was that age, I felt like I was in my late 20's!

    Hey Cran,

We always psychologically draw ourselves to a younger age and feeling younger is a quotent of energy and stamina, which Zone dieting helps out a ton. Prior to this diet, I had people meeting me who no longer believed I was 32, when told, and would politely suggest that I appeared "much more mature" which meant I was aging much faster than normal and it was showing, meaning I had to get my life in gear. The zone has helped me and I trust it's helped you too. What a great side effect, feeling younger, eh?

    I agree!

I have had the pleasure of others commenting on my age throughout my life, and they generally seem to knock off 5-10 years.  But, I couldn't fool the guy at the state fair, he guessed my age right on the nose!

Several months back, a friend squirmed when I told him that I was 32, he thought I was 40ish. Now I really feel and look more like 24, so much better than 32. This is amazing!

What an amazing change, well done.

I'm 51, although I've always looked younger than my age, but the zone and my exercise keeps me young. My health and body are better than ever, even in my 20's. I also do CrossFit just twice a week which is great for fitness and muscle tone and strength. The combo of Zone, paleo food choices, fish oil, and CrossFit is amazing. (I do have lower carbs though as I am extremely carb sensitive)

Julianne, you're an inspiration! I'm 48 next month, and haven't been at this healthy weight since high school (other than reaching my goal weight a handful of times since then, only to promptly regain all the weight plus more). I've been maintaining the 120+ pound weight-loss following the Zone for 15 months now and counting . I have to say, those of us that follow the Zone diet seem to look really good for our ages (Jennifer Aniston has always been an inspiration!)

I have a recurring lower-back issue which recently flared up, MRI shows a bulging disc. I've been trying the Paleo-Zone, but really miss Greek yogurt and a bit of lowfat cheese in my omelettes. In your opinion, is there a benefit to reducing dairy to a minimum (1 serving a day), or does it have to be all or nothing in order to benefit?

    Thanks!

    Hi Everyone,

I'm 58, and I'm below my high school weight.  People always think I'm younger than my real age.  I've been in the Zone for almost 16 years and that probably has a lot to do with it.  My kids cringe when the hear someone comment on how I look younger, but I love hearing it.    I don't  know what 58 is supposed to look like, but I'll take this!

Thanks Sue -- it's been going on for several weeks now, taking forever for the inflammation to go down :-( ... but there's a silver lining in that it's motivating me to do everything I can to maximize my health, because I really REALLY hate feeling so "old", hobbling around with a bad back! It's a wake-up call to stop jerking around with unfavorable choices, and take my health seriously.

P.S. Just saw your last post Sue -- you DO look amazing!

    Laurie,
    You have done amazingly well!

Dairy is a bit more of a grey area in terms of paleo food choices. It does tend to increase insulin levels a lot, more than the amount of carbs would suggest. It also has some gut irritants. Google 'dairy Loren Cordain gut irritants'. I'd go on how you feel with dairy.
I cut it out because it makes me constipated, things like yogurt affect my insulin levels (and therefore hunger) and also because I have auto-immune problems and a lot of cancer in my family (dairy is a growth promoter)

Laurie, I am sorry to hear about your back.  I hope you feel better soon.  I had some back issues (you may recall) last month, but seems to have worked itself out.  Now my DH is having some back issues, or we think it is coming from his back... he doesn't really complain about back pain, but he gets a tingly burning sensation with tightening in his thigh, if he twists or turns just right.  So, will have to go and get it checked out!

In terms of dairy, I tend to hear multiple views on it.  It isn't the best for me in larger quantities in terms of glycemic control, but I think it compliments meals in smaller amounts.  Laurie, if you don't want to give up the dairy, maybe keeping it to smaller amounts will work out better for you?

I love receiving those compliments, too!  I think it runs in the family, too.  My mom has always looked 10 years younger than she is.  I think it has caught up to her now (I can say that because she doesn't read these posts--phew!), but at 72, she is still very active, and still maintains a YOUNG attitude.
