Hey Guys,

First of all I just wanted to say how much the zone diet has changed my life! For the past 3 years I have had all the symptoms of diabetes but of course the resting blood glucose tests were all normal.
My diet up until a few weeks ago consisted of:
Toast and cereal for breakfast, pasta and bread for lunch and rice or pasta for dinner! etc etc. Now I feel amazing and fit and mentally alert!
Now my problem. I worked out my body fat % as being around 17%. I am 28, 6,4 and weigh 208 pounds. But all my fat is around my belly (insulin problems I reckon). Should I eliminate all the fat from my diet except the minimum recommended blocks per meal?
Also, how long until the fat comes off?

Any advice would be fantastic.

Thank you from Andy in Sicily

Andy, Following the zone means eliminating all the bad and excess fat from you diet. By excess I mean anything beyond the recommended blocks. Eliminating the unfavourable carbs will probably make the biggest difference. Average weight loss is 1 to 1-1/2 lbs per week. At 17% body if you are not already you may want to add in some exercise. If you look at the zone pyramid you will see that fitness is part of the zone life style.

Happy zoning,

Hi Andy,

The rate of fat loss will differ from individual to individual (just ask me!).

Following Zone guidelines will help you to change that bellyfat issue. Yes, fat around the middle of the body is definitely a sign of having had high insulin levels in the past. If you eat a balanced Zone diet with just the amount of fat that the Zone eating plan recommends, then you should see the fat slowly disappear.

It isn't fast. It really shouldn't be fast, but I think that the average person will drop 1-2 pounds per week. In your case, if you don't necessarily want to drop weight, I would recommend keeping track of measurements, and you will see shrinkage in the abdominal area, while maintaining (or even gaining) your lean body mass.

great stuff thank you.
The Zone has released me from a prison it feels like. The worst thing was that when I was saying I was tired and "drugged" everyone played it down and said "but everyone gets tired sometimes, its all in your head"but I KNEW something was up..
I always have done exercise at home or at the gym, the problem until recently though has been it has impossible or me to do any as I was so exhausted on some days. It was a lottery how I was feeling and of course I thought "Ill eat more carbs" for energy!
Happy zoning!
