When a recipe calls for bread crumbs (as in a lentil loaf) any examples of a good Zone friendly substitute?

What about for pasta as in certain soups?

What about for rice as for something to have with a stew or Chinese dish?

bread crumbs:

Use a minimal amount if you want in keeping with the unfav carb limit fo 25% of all carbs in a meal. Or use ground rolled oats (also unfav).

pasta:

Use Zone Pasta

rice:

I'd skip it.

Which is better: oats or barley?

Could also use a touch of wheat germ--not as good as the above, I believe, but better than bread crumbs.

Either oats or barley. Oats contains a little GLA, which can be a plus.

Wheat germ wouldn't be better than oats or barley because wheat germ oil isn't Zone friendly. Oats and barley are both favorable carbs.

When I do a loaf, I generally use finely chopped veggies as the filler in place of bread crumbs. And, I usually add a bit more egg to the mixture, which will help to bind everything together. Finely chopped celery and/or onion and/or mushroom works really nice in a loaf, and an add some flavor, too!
